I've been having some issues with firefox and I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problems.

At times my computer seems to run really sluggish, and when I task manager, I see that CPU usage is 100% and firefox is taking up almost all of that. So when I saw that the new beta firefox was out I downloaded that, and thus far really like it (faster and such), but I've just recently noticed that it too wants to take up almost 100% of my cpu usage, and it's starting to become annoying.

Cool

At times I have had problems with FireFox but I just looked past thinking it is my laptop being as bad as ever however after reading this I am suspecting it is a program problem rather then the computer processor?

I have no idea about anything regarding tech however so no help from me.
Once and a while but hardly ever.
I use Firefox and don't have any problems with it hogging up CPU at all. Make sure it is really Firefox and not a trojan. Close Firefox and check to see if it's still listed as an actively running program. If it is then you have a trojan using the name.
uninstall firefox and reboot, check your cpu usage, use 'active ports' and 'autoruns' to see what's happening in your system, what ip's are being contacted by what programs.

download FireFox only from official sources. DO NOT DOWNLOAD firefox with GOOGLE BAR.
i found GOOGLE BAR was eating my resources and probably has spyware in it as i no longer trust google.
My Firefox is ftw! no problems whatsoever.
Seems fine to me gft. I'll let you know if anything comes up!
When I had firefox it would sometimes act up. I found it very reliable though. Now I use Opera just to be different.
Opera is great, but I went to Firefox simply because Opera's widgets can't compete with FF's extensions. If a new Opera version had something similar I'd be back on it.
Yeah that’s one thing that FF has on any other browser, its the fact that there is an endless supply of widgets for everything you could ever think of.
Firefox isn't exactly the most resource friendly browser available. I find it downright sluggish on many older systems, and even on newer systems, I find it to still be a memory and CPU hog. (Let's not forget that Firefox up until 3b1 had major memory leak problems, which are now fixed.) The v3 beta is still quite unstable, and I'd strongly avoid using it on a daily production basis (only testers and coders should really put much use into this build).

To give me an idea of the root of some problems, if you could list the following specifications of the system, I'd probably have a better idea of what's going on, and many tweaks which I know to assist, as well as if there's a problem, I could identify the cause.
1. Hardware specs
2. Software setup (OS, etc.)
3. Security software
If you want a perfect version of FF go back to FF 1.5

if you want a functioning version go for FF2

do not, under any circumstances use the FF3 betas, They are huge resource hogs.

Plus if you want to ditch functionality for speed, go for the apple Safari browser, It runs scripts at lightning speed. Seriously, if it had the customisation of FF I'd be using it as my default.
The main reason I use FF is because I can put RSS feeds directly on the bar and with one click can see everything that there is to offer. I can't do that on IE7, Opera, or Safari. I love that feature too much to use another browser.

I thought you were an IE7 man?

Yeah, Firefox is a lot more reliable than some of the other. Thats what I think.

Unfortunately, to pass the ACID test, and self-title it as "The first fully CSS2 compliant browser", Apple sacrificed a lot of compatibility with sites on the net in safari builds after 2.0.1.

Firefox was alright at 1.5, but the implementation of gecko back then (1.8.8?), is now somewhat dated at rendering current sites.

2.0.0.9 is pretty stable for me, for the most part, hence why I will wait for 3.0.0.3 before upgrading to (from looking at the betas), will be a relatively buggy .0 release. As D4rk mentioned, never use the betas except for testing, not only are these still memory hogs (because of the new fixes they're working on for fragmentation), but also because of the fact that they're moving to Gecko 1.9, while promising, is still relatively buggy.

haha yeah, I was going more on stability. My copy off FF1.5 has never crashed. FF2 crashes occationally, but it's usually down to a bad javascript.

And yeah, I get a feeling that once safari gets to 3.5 it's going to be a pretty good browser, The only thing it'll lack is the FF extensions system.

I really like the anti-aliasing of everything and the general rapidness and smoothness of the Webkit renderer. Why isn't there an opensource KHTML browser on windows! >_<

tbh, someone needs to strap firefox onto the webkit renderer, and then go from there. I'd use it ^^
I've always trusted Opera and Safari for speed. Firefox for functionality and expandability.

It also lacks the compatibility of Firefox. Safari, technically, doesn't run on Webkit, Webkit is the layout engine in Konqueror for the KDE project. When Safari branched off their code, and didn't return it all, the changed Safari branch is now technically WebCore. They're almost identical, except for a few CSS2 changes, so it's really ok to classify them as the same (I do).

I personally don't care for Safari's font smoothing, but most people who I've let try it, love it, ask me to turn it on strong, and want to switch to Safari, so I guess it's all on what you like there.

As for opensource Webkit browsers for Windows, when the KDE team gets KDE for Windows out, soon enough, you'll have Konqueror, the original Webkit browser, but, KDE isn't TECHNICALLY open source.

Once safari gets to 3.0.5, or 4.0.0, it probably will be a great browser, I just think it needs some UI overhauls on Windows (make it native), and some rendering fixes to make it more compatible with sites. (It looks great on OS X). Overall, I've said before, I prefer Webkit implementations over Gecko any day. (Opera is ok, but again, compatibility plagues it). Part of the reason FF is so unstable is extensions, though, but I find it hard to live without things like Adblock plus, siteblocker, greasemonkey, private browsing, and noscript. Then again, Safari is the way it is because it lacks that ability, so it's a catch 22.

Bottom line
I agree, Safari flies for speed, and is usually quite stable, but Firefox for compatibility that still holds some iota of stability/speed **cough**IE**cough**.
