Title: Super Mario Galaxy
Developer: Nintendo
Publisher: Nintendo
Players: 1-2

Now its time for a review that people will care a little about. My second review just happens to be on one of the most fun games the wii has to offer. Galaxy is the third 3d Mario game succeeding Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. Galaxy maintains the series fun and quirky gameplay and improves on almost everything. The game will have you entertained from start to finish, there is never a dull moment. You will be jumping, flying, shooting, spinning, throwing, swimming, rolling, floating and surfing all throughout quirky and fun galaxies.

The game starts off with the average super Mario game plot. There is some sort of festival in mushroom kingdom and Princess peach gets kidnapped by Bowser and now our intrepid Italian plumber has to save her, but this time he will travel throughout space! After Bowser rips Peach's castle out of the ground and takes her away, Mario then ends up on this space station that will serve as the hub for all the galaxies (such as the town in Sunshine or the Castle in 64). The station is run by Rosalina the watcher of the stars. She tells Mario that he needs to gather the power starts from across the galaxies to power the space station so it can go and rescue Peach. That’s where the adventure begins.

With the control scheme you will be controlling Mario's movement with the joystick on the nunchuck. The A button is the Jump, B is ground pound or to shoot star bits if your not in the air. Star bits are little crystals you collect throughout your adventures that can be used to shoot at enemies pointing with the wii mote and pressing B. They are also used as a form of in game currency sometimes opening new worlds and buying mushrooms in a certain level. Shaking the wii mote will cause Mario to do a spin attack witch can be used to stun or kill enemies and toggle switches and some various puzzles, all the controls mesh extremely well. The levels in galaxy seem to a perfect balance of easy and challenging difficulties while always keeping you entertained. While somewhat linear in their design all the galaxies maintain a level of uniqueness. Every galaxy is far different from the other, whether it be surfing manta rays on a water race track world or flying around in a bee suit on a honeycomb world it never gets old.

Galaxy will take some time to complete as you will find yourself going back to previously conquered galaxies to replay them. Sometimes you will be informed that there is a comet hovering over a particular galaxy, the comets change the gameplay for the level. Some will have you racing a evil twin mario to the end of a level, facing a boss with only one sliver of health or it will just make the enemies twice as fast. Other times you will be sent back to rescue Luigi who always seems to get trapped on the levels. There is technically multiplayer for this title but the second player is relegated to just collecting star bits with the wii mote, they can cause you to jump by clicking on you but have no real impact on the game. In my experience your friend will just end up trying to make you fall off ledges but making you jump at inopportune times. All through this the camera and the controls are very intuiting and it all creates a great gaming experience overall.

Gameplay: 5/5
As what can only be described as great plat forming fun, every level is perfectly designed and controls perfectly with the wii mote and nunchuck.

Graphics: 5/5
Everything is brightly colored and very detailed, easily the best graphics on the wii to date.

Sound: 4/5
The sound really adds to the feel of the game, it will create suspense or get you pumped for the next area. It does its job and it does it well.

Innovation: 4/5
Doesn’t really bring anything new to video games in general, but it’s a fantastic new addition to the Mario franchise .

Longevity: 4/5
With the amount of levels in this game and between going back to play through all the comets or just playing levels multiple times because of how fun they are. You will be playing Galaxy for quite some time.

Conclusion: Possible the greatest Mario game to date, you cant ask for more in a game title.

Final Score:
5/5
