ahhh there the hell are you d4rk?! lol youre never on MSN...wait, lemme rephrase that, youre never on MSN when IM ON MSN! lol
anyways this goes out to all of you guys as well but of course, d4rk always seems to get here first
my CPU fan is processing VERY fast, meaning everytime i use a program, my CPU fan will go to 100% usage and then after a little while cause my computer to shut down due to overheating. now, keep in mind guys (and gals) that my laptop (inspiron b130 dell) is fully aired. nothing is blocking the CPU fan.
this is a main concern with me since i dont know what to do? do i get one of those dinky USB cooling fans and expect that to work? a laptop cooling pad? a new CPU fan upgrade (i know its one screw but size, processing, mhz, all that crap i dont know ANYTHING about) ?
what are my options? im getting a new laptop since i got a sony viao and hated it. i returned that and plan on getting the panasonic tough book since im a little hard on laptops lol.
thanks for the advice <3
send dell an email, because it's a laptop, they're the only ones that can really help :/
i believe my warenty is up with dell- i had an extended warenty to fix problems but im PRETTY sure its over and done with so they cant send me new parts for free anymore or have a tech come and assist me with it.
is there a simplier solution?

Forget working inside the laptop, it's impossible to change the fan on a laptop CPU. Most of the time I'm doing my internet, its on my Dell Pentium 3 laptop, and the CPU fan kicks on at times and goes off all the time. (Xp, about 5 or 6 years old this machine). That said, it never overheats (or really gets warm), and turns off. A lack of properly functioning chipset drivers could be the cause of heating issues on a laptop, as ACPI may not be enabled with power management on new machines this way.
However, on any of these PC threads, we need more info to work with. If you could, please, post more information about your system, and the software configuration you have as well. Besides some basic things I may be able to help with, most likely, you'll have to contact dell.
currently my system is as follows (taken from the properties on my C drive)
windows XP version 2002 (i got this like 3 years ago) service pack 2.
intel celeron M
processor 1.50GHz
1.50GHz, 0.99GB of RAM
wtvr the f*ck that means! lol i dont even know if that will help
would you recommend i update my CPU drivers or something? maybe check the fuction and run tests when i start up my computer?
First thing you should do is Virus scan. It just might be those nasty buggers hogging the CPU.
I had a similar problem, although I never got around to figuring out exactly why it was happening... Instead, I got a new comp xD
(Long over-due anyways, since it was 3 years old and I'm a PC gamer. Disgrace really.)
virus scan ay? i cant tell you the last time i did all that
oy.....
There's TECHNICALLY no such thing as a CPU driver (There is, but not relevant in any of these cases). Try Control+Shift+Esc, bring up task manager, and see how much CPU is used when idle.
Whoaaa, why the hell does ctrl-alt-del AND ctrl-shift-esc bring up task manager.
yeah i know, when its in idle status its never in use and if it is its very minimal like 10% of less.
whenever i use an aplication - in this case ill use my converter for videos- it goes go 100% or if im watching a movie on my computer steaming online with mulitiple applications up such as AIM or along those terms, it will go to 100% and shut down after a few hours of usage
very strange
im running ad-aware, AVG, and spybot. spybot has just finshed removing 81 objects, adaware has like so far 209 critical problems found and AVG found a trojan horse! my god the hell is wrong with my poor computer! oh thats right i havent updated or touched this thing in 199 days apparently!
how embarassing....
>.>
Hopefully this solves the problem.
Check task manager to make sure that the program you're running is the only one running.. those other running apps *might* be viruses, trogans, etc.
That "might" turning nto a "most likely" given your case xD
quick update- posting at work
ran a virus scan 3 viruses found, all deleted
297 critical items removed from ad-ware
81 items removed from spy-bot
in task manager everything looked kosher. there were no phantom programs and everything had permission to launch and what didnt was closed out.
CPU still cooks but doesnt reach max- looks like its about 70% usage then goes down to the 40's and up to 80's then down to 10% go figure!
theres gotta be something up with it maybe i dont know
OKAY! gotta get off this thing and attend roll call- will be on in the morning when i get home
