Wow, well this was certainly an unexpected surprise. It's now been confirmed that next year downloadable content will start to become available for the Wii Guitar Hero III in a letter from Red Octane. Naturally, it's highly likely they'll only be used to download new songs however I guess this could be for a range of things such as new arenas and characters.

It's pretty indefinite that they're not going to be free and instead sold for Wii Points but I wouldn't be too surprised if they threw in a free track such as the Zelda theme tune like they have done for the Xbox. We've got a fashionably late full review coming really soon of GHIII so stay tuned for that and you can check out exactly what the letter says below:

Hello,

Thank you for writing us.

Downloadable content for the Wii is something we are working very hard on getting in place for the new year. There is no definite timetable in place but we are hoping it will be soon.

Regards,

RedOctane Customer Support.

Things are certainly looking good in terms of online for the Wii. Lets hope for downloadable content in future games now it's been done, maybe for extra stages in Smash Bros. Brawl.

it basically confirms that there will be downloadable content but there isn't a date yet.

developers don't often work hard towards something then drop it. granted it does happen, but that's a lot of wasted money, and this isn't a huge project that they'll waste money on by releasing. downloadable content would benefit RedOctane a lot if they songs are purchased instead of free. if that's the case, there's no reason they shouldn't do it. just a matter of IF they can do it, thus the "working very hard" part from RedOctane Customer Support
oooo nice find thx Smile i can't wait for this (maybe) release but still can't wait for Christmas to FINALLY get the game anyway i think if octane is gonna get money out of it they'll probably do it
ZOMG! my life as a Guitar Hero will be complete when i can get downloadable songs on the wii!

yay!
awesome, this was one thing that made me want to get GH for the 360 instead, and also could this mean that maybe we will get a HDD, i mean where are we supposed to store all our songs, certainly not on our measily little 512 MB
I am so excited now! This was one thing that kinda made me feel left out compared to the 360 version.
ditto i hope they let the option to let it download on sd
YES, this news pleases me
hopefully the process will be simple and economical. $5 per song still sounds a bit much to me. maybe $5 for a set, such as Nintendo Classics featuring 3-5 songs from Nintendo games such as Zelda and Mario. that would be understandable and fine by me

but i'd even better with free Big Grin
Songs don't really take up that much space, but I think they'll make it transerable to an SD.
Maybe they'll update it so it runs on Stereo (at least) instead of Mono.
not so sure that can be fixed with DLed content. if it is, you'd have to make sure that DL is never removed from your Wii. it's plausable, but just as plausable as having people mail in their discs and getting a corrected version sent back. yes, replacing the disc costs more to the company, but they have to realize not everyone can DL the patch for it, so they'll have to have a way of fixing it w/out the DL anyway similar to Microsoft sending discs to enable backwards compatability.
Eh, despite my stance on download content, this is good news. Hopefully they don't shaft you like Xbox live does and bundle songs in groups of 3 charging $6 a group. I'd download a great song in order to get my Wii points down to 0.
yeah that whole "paying thing" to play songs? im sure ill do it anyways or my bf will if and when we see these songs. if its something good, ill convince him to pay for them instead of myself...i am the frugal one lmao and he is the one who bought VC games in the past Wink
