Has anyone seen this movie besides me? I was really disappointed with it and expected it to be much better. It really isn't that long but it seemed so long to me. I checked my watch 2 or 3 times, which isn't a good sign since I don't normally check my watch if I'm enjoying a movie. Also, I almost feel asleep a couple of times in the movie as well. There will be a 2nd and 3rd part as well as there are three books and no, I have not read the books. After learning about the real story I'm starting to smell another DaVinci Code moment where people will go to see the movie just because of the controversy.
I have not seen the movie, but want to. The professional reviews have been really mixed, and oddly enough the reviewers I look to the most (Roger Ebert) have given this movie an A.
I think the controversy about this movie trying to push children to atheism or whatever is rather stupid, and it runs along the same lines of those who cry that Harry Potter is teaching children about dark magic and witch craft so beware.
After what you wrote Mana, I think I'll wait for this movie on DVD to check it out. As you said, there's nothing worse then being in a movie theater and checking your watch 2 or 3 times. It's happened to my plenty...anyone see Beloved?

this was the greatest part of the movie so far (i've not seen it yet). some morning talk show had an uber-christian preacher and one of the heads of some atheist community. seeing the two of them duke it out was friggin' hilarious. best part was the preacher claiming that atheism "did so well for the Chinese". i LMAO. both of them were so extreme on their point they had no idea what they were fighting about. they just wanted to put each other down. then the preacher said he wanted to the movie to make absolutely no money, but didn't care because the church had survived worse. if that's the case, why do you care so much about the movie? LOL
Yeah, the movie is seeming to piss off very strict Christians as well as Aethiest. In a way, they are both in agreement that the movie is not what it should be. LMAO!
This film amazed me. Along comes a film dependent on CGI and the acting is amazing. Normally, the graphics stand out more than the acting, but here it wasn't.
I even started crying tears of joy near the beginning because of how good it was.
But it's not the best film ever... The bear fight wasn't good enough... Too basic, and no blood! Characters were underused... Serafina pekkala was only in two scenes, and only spoke in one of those scenes, although she did do the narration at the beginning...
And the music wasn't very good. I can't remember a single tune from there...
And some big names are in there for no reason whatsoever... Kristen Scott Thomas voiced Stelmaria and only had 1 line. Christopher Lee plays some guy whose got no name according to the credits...
And they took the last three chapters away, but that's going to be added to the beginning of the first one if it's made, so I don't really care.
Some characters are exactly how imagined them in the book, like Roger, Iorek and Fra Pavel, and the other characters suit the book very well, too.
The books are much better than the film, so I recommend you read those, although you should still see the film.
The bear fights were totally lame. White polar bears fighting on white snow and one gets his neck bitten and not a drop of blood. That is just pathetic. Watering down a movie is one thing but c'mon. Hell, even a kid died in Pirates 3 and that's a lot for Disney.
