...a pretty blah 2008 for the Wii?

So far, it's not looking so hot.

With all this talk about the Wii "hype" starting to slow down and it possibly being exposed as a one-trick-pony, 2008's game lineup isn't going to help.

Personally, I'm probably in the minority here...I'm STILL working on Metroid (and I bought it the day it came out)...I play 3 hrs a week at most. I know alot of dudes blow through games in days. If you play that aggressively, I can't fathom how 2008 is going to be a satisfying year for some folks.

Curious as to what you all think about 2008 and what it means for the Wii.

Also, SSBB is not enough for me to go "oh, 2008 should be good, I'll be able to have 2 button fights between Pikachu and Cupid"
2008 will be good enough as I'll have plenty of Brawl committments in the form of tournaments and such. So I have no concerns.
Mario Kart, And Brawl.

Massive Online play.
I also forgot that I'm buying Mario Galaxy next year as well. So that'll occupy more time.
Ok, so both you guys are going to be stoked on ONE or TWO games?

I mean, I like cornball games as much as the next guy, but one of these games that you are saying is going to be making 2008 a solid year is Mario Kart. I don't care if it's online or not, you are not going to convince me that with Nintendo churning out two very juvenile games as their heavy hitters in 2008, that it isn't going to further damn them as a "kids" system.

I do think that 2008 will be a great year for Nintendo (not the hardcore Nintendo fan), but it will also be a year that galvanizes them as a family/new gen gaming console with developers creating for that demographic.
I'm so past caring what Nintendo do now. So long as they give me Brawl. I don't even like them anymore... I only enjoy their franchises.
Im pretty sure Smash will give me a solid year.
honestly, im still working on 2007 games XD. i have yet to own or even play metroid, galaxy, or any other games that came out recently. add to that brawl, mario kart, no more heroes, wiifit, and a few others i may snag on the road, and i think my 2008 will be set. i know that MY 2008 isn't NINTENDO's 2008, cause i live in the past, but honestly i prefer having just a few games hold my attention long enough to hold me over for a year or two. chances are if they can do that, then i'll still be playing it years down the road. sure, these games may come once in a blue moon for nintendo, but that doesn't bother me. so long as they come eventually, and they can keep me busy for hours on end, i'll think of them as succeeding (even though to the majority they're failing). even if all i get are the games i listed, i could probably survive through 08.
I'm on LMX's bandwagon here--I'm done with Nintendo. I still dig their franchises, but Nintendo has lost my respect. As awesome as their customer service may be, they don't pay any attention to the consumer beyond that and I'm sick of being treated as a second rate customer.

Yes, there will be some good (possibly great) games coming--SSBB (WILL be great) No More Heroes, Mario Kart, but I haven't ever wanted a 360 more...
For PAL '08 will be fine, I mean we don't get '07s games until '08.
Super Smash
Mario Kart
Harvest Moon
MX v ATV

Im set, I still need to buy some 07' games.

My last MX experience wasn't very pleasing but if you like that kind of game I suggest the soon to be released nitrobike, it has an online mode also which will be sure to increase longevity.

I read about nitro bike, didn’t really like it, but the previews of the new mx game sound a lot better then previous games in the series. I just want a decent racing game for the wii.

Haven't looked into mx that much but I do recommend you consider Nitrobike later onSmile

For me, I don't see me doing racing on my wii.

Once Spore comes out, I won't need another game. But until it's realeased, I'll settle for Brawl, Galaxy, Metroid, and all the games I didn't finish yet. I'm set for the year. I haven't even finished Metroid Prime 1 and i've owned it for a year... I should go play that now.
oooooo i forgot it's gonna be AWESOME also I'm getting a new pc so PC gaming + wii gaming =HAPPY camper

The longevity isn't going to be mind blowing..

Wii's 2008 will be fine. Nintendo's releasing Endless Ocean, Wii Fit, Brawl, Mario Kar, & WiiWare t at the beginning of the year. What's next for them, is still unknown for the rest of the year. But that's where the 3rd Parties are stepping up to the plate with No More Heroes, Final Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers, Opoona, Civilization Revolution, Spore, Destroy All Humans, De Blob, Okami,Samba Day Amigo and so on. The point is there is something for everyone to look forward to in 08, so Wii will be fine. 2008 will be the year 3rd party games on Wii really shine.
Super Smash Bros Brawl will take up most of my year in 2008 cuz I love the game that much, well I love SSBM and am hoping it will be superior so I'll love it even more. I'm also a huge Mario Kart freak as well so that will take up a lot of my year too. Also, like LZ I have a ton of games from this year that I have not finished yet as well. I'm sure they're have some surprises in store for us also. Just have to wait and see.

Join the club! I like Nintendo as a developer, but as a publisher they're pathetic.

Anyways, I'm a little concerned about next year too. The only games I'm interested in are SSBB, No More Heroes and Civilization Revolution.
