A team of class action attorneys has launched an investigation into complaints that Halo 3 was falsely marketed as a high definition product, but does not actually render native high definition resolutions. These complaints are that, although Halo 3 was advertised as having a 720p resolution (720 pixels), it natively renders at 640p (640 pixels) and is simply scaled up to 720p. Read more about it here. If you purchased the Halo 3 game, you may be entitled to recover money.

so basically they are getting sued for false advertising, because MS and Bungie promised Halo3 to be in HD but it only runs native 640p. but sueing over that is just retarded, its not like you can really tell the difference.
ROFL. That's pretty funny. Yet another retarded law suit in the gaming world.

agreed.
um.. heres the way is see it
a team of stupid lawyers VS Microsoft.
...in every way i think of it i cant see microsoft losing / refunding anything to anybody, im pretty sure im not alone on thinking that
I think it is a fairly respectable case...Funny nonetheless.
It would be nice to get money back though wouldn't it?
I think it is a fairly respectable case...Funny nonetheless.
It actually is, and one that M$ could lose. But it's amazing what people sue over.

Agreed.
It's the same principle as when Dannon got sued for actually shorting customers out of an Ounce or so of yogurt because they were not taring the containers... That was back in the early 90's... Dannon lost.
In a world where masses of entertainment drones drool over something projected on screen through a disc the volume of what they purchase is made up for through on screen pixels. Bungie shorted everyone a few fluid ounces worth of pixels. Make em pay for it. I sure as hell wouldn't advertise an animation DVD as high def if things weren't properly rendered...
False advertisement is false advertisement no matter how small. I think that if they boasted so much about it being HD and it's not really HD then it's a big deal. Think of selling a Muslim person a Pork Burger at McDonalds and advertising it as beef. That could be a big deal. It's true that people try to find anyway they can to sue another person though and this looks like another case of that. Trying to get whatever they can.
Microsoft can get away with violating anti-trust agreements.
A piddly class-action lawsuit won't make them flinch
Lol, I hope Microsoft lose. Just for the fun of it.
Funny, but it's a respectable case.
It probably won't do any damage to Halo 3's sales, but meh.
Question here is, are they sueing Microsoft themselves or Bungie? Could make it an entirely different case.
the point isn't that it's not 720p, but they "said" it is. if they say it is and it's not, it's a lie flat out. they can't really deny it. MS will still probably win. money will get you anything, especially out of jail
by "said" you mean because it's located in the back of the box, right? again, the other games that are not native 720p also say it's 720p. COD4 is not 720p either. do you think we'll see a lawsuit for that game too?
I think it is a fairly respectable case...Funny nonetheless.

While they're at it, why don't they sue:
Infinity Ward, for COD4 (1024×600)
Bethesda, for Oblivion (1024×600 on 360)
Neversoft, for Tony Hawk Project 8 (1040×584)
Bizarre Creations, for PGR3 (1024×600)
etc.
All of which are advertised as 720p.
my point is they will not and might not loose. if these lawyers are stupid enough to even go through with this that just goes to show how bright they really are.

not only will it not make them flinch but without any effort whatsoever it will wither and die
missed it for quite a few replies, but oh well
to those who said those other games did the same thing and wonder if they should be sued too, yes. doesn't matter who did it, it's still false advertising. i'm not saying bungie/MS should be sued b/c i loathe halo, i'm saying it b/c it's immoral
the GHIII audio thing with the Wii is a bit different from what i interpreted. i took it as that was a technical issue. the game was SUPPOSED to include stereo audio but b/c of some error that occured the discs didn't output audio properly. if Activision/RedOctane purposefully put out the audio incorrectly like those companies purposefully put the image out different than what it advertised, they should be dealt with as well
yea. btw, how would u find out what the resolution of the game is? if they say it's 720p, how could u prove them wrong?
By old fashion pixel counting.
Load the game up on a huge screen, count the pixels.
length x height = total pixels.
Doesn't relaly take too long.
I just don't know how they'd do that if its upscaled to 720 anyways... somehow stop the upscaling?
possibly counting the pixels of characters vs pixels of the screen?
if the screen is 720 pixels and each game pixel takes up 1.5 screen pixels, it's upscaled
just a thought. sure they have an easier way
