Manhunt 2, Rockstar Games' controversial title which was originally banned in the United Kingdom may just be coming there after all. After the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) rejected the selling of the game in Great Britain, Rockstar withdrew the original game and edited it, censoring much of its content. This move by Take Two, Rockstar's parent company, was also to favor the American market. While the game had not been officially banned in the US, it had received an Adults-Only rating from the ESRB, limiting its shelf life considering Sony, Microsoft and Nintendos' stances on such games. When the reedited game came around it was accepted by the ESRB of America for a "Mature" rating, while the BBFC of Britain continued to outlaw it.
It appears that this may all change rather soon though, as the Video Appeals Committee has accepted Rockstar's case by a margin of four to three, which will be likely to strongly influence the BBFC's final decision on the Wii, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable stealth title. Public opinions of the game appear still firmly divided with some believing the game should remain open to any willing adult consumer. Others feel that Manhunt 2 is unfit for viewing by any audience, regardless of age.
