Would you prefer your Nintendo Wii to get jiggy wit' your Will Smith MP3s? Our first piece of advice would be to not download the new Photo Channel, version 1.1, which replaces MP3 support with AAC. If it's too late for you, then we recommend taking these simple steps, provided by Nintendo itself:
From the main menu, click the "Wii" button
Select Data Management
Select Channels
Select Photo Channel 1.1 and confirm you want to delete it
Photo Channel 1.0, the original, automatically returns to the main menu
If you change your mind yet again, then you can always re-download the update. Yes, Nintendo's providing instructions on how to downgrade your Photo Channel to keep playing MP3s - it even says in the description, "for instance if you'd rather have MP3 compatibility instead of AAC." Why Nintendo couldn't figure out how to support both formats simultaneously - a feature available in pretty much every other audio player out there - is beyond our comprehension. If audio quality is really their concern, we wonder if version 1.2 will continue the trend and abandon AAC for FLAC.

For myself this is a good idea, because I'd rather play MP3's. Plus when I decide to put in Excite Truck, I'd like to have some of my own music and not that crap music (my opinion) they provide with the game.
Well I (personally) have my PC *right* next to my Wii, which plays my mp3's just fine. And I didn't bother with crappy Excite Truck anyway and thus this update of the Photo Channel really didn't harm me in any way.

That's totally understandable except for the "crappy Excite Truck" comment, but to each their own.
Does anyone know if there's something coming out to somehow patch Excite Truck so it can use the AAC mucis, or is Nintendo just gonna forget about that feature in the game?
Don't be surprised if they just forget about that feature in the game. You could always send them an e-mail asking.
Allegedly, the photo channel doesn't effect MP3 compatibility in excite truck, so you can have AACs for the photo channel and MP3s for Excite Truck.
Yes, that's what I wanna know. Never heard of that format.
Meh, no one is using the Mp3 thing anyway. Unless your talking about the 14 people worldwide.
And my Computer is next too my Wii too. But I can see someone finding out how to hack the Wii, and make it possible to Keep MP3's..its comin!
AAC 128kbps is similar in quality to MP3 192kbps
That's a rough guide of a song of the same size in AAC and MP3 format
iTunes uses them by default
^^--- True
I used them, then switched to MP3 192kbps for universal compatibility, but recently have switched over to AAC 192kbps for sheer sound quality with my new iPod
Like most of the others in this thread I would never use my Wii to listen to music so I'm not worried about this. It is a strange move by Nintendo though. Oh well. *puts headphones back on and resumes listening to iTunes on his lappy.*
