The contrast between the left and right sides is kinda funky, and the lighting is a bit off.

Just take a 300 soft black brush and stroke the dark side (lower opacity), its not nearly as dark as it should be.
Other then that, pretty nice.
(lawl, I can still talk gfx, even though I haven't opened PS in like 4 months...)

ya technically, "this side" should be well dark. I love what you've done there tho. awesome looking gfx. I made a sun only a few days ago and I like the space stuff a lot more now 
even if you were to darken it a little and maybe stick the star further behind the planet and throw in a lens flare as it peeks around the horizon?

look up guken on dA for some awesome space-scapes
best way to learn is by watching
but yeah, the only way you're going to make it completely convincing is with Maya, 3DS or something
