Since I have had my PS2 whenever I tried to play a dvd...the screen turns green. This only happens in dvds not games.

After looking over the net the only solutions I found were 'buy a newer ps2' or 'find a cable'.

Hoping that someone here can help me.
I don't use my PS2 to play DVD's because quite frankly it was always inferior to what I already had, but on the rare occasion I did play DVDs with it, I would sometimes have a similar problem.  I didn't have a total green screen though.  I'd have green lines/waves going through the picture which could barely be made out.  I would normally turn off my system and start it back up and it would work ok or perhaps move the cables a little bit.  I'm not sure what model you have, but I have a launch PS2.

This green thing never really happened to me, and the system was already quite a few years old when it did happen.

I have a launch also, its just the screen goes completely green, you can see the picture still...just green >_<

I believe it is the cables and someone on google said that it was a sony deliberate offence against cables...?

I have a grey one (forgot the name) that simply plugs into the back of tv..

if your using the cables that came with your system, then it's probably not that. plus i haven't heard any about sony detering people from using 3rd party cables, but that does mean it's not true.

have you tried a lense cleaner?
Check out this product link I have below. It seems to be a playback system that takes any region locking off of your system, plus it's suppose to kill the green screen issue. I haven't found it much in the US, but when I did (once), I think it sold for $12. Also go to your local game store (like small family owned), and tell them about your issue...you might even take your PS2 with you and they can hook it up and see if any of their solutions work.

Thanks, I may look into purchasing another cable to get rid of this issue I do have a DVD play next to it but the constant plug and scart changing is indeed awkward.

+Rep for the help.

No prob McCloud, I'm sorry that I couldn't be more help to you.  If you need any more assistance let me know and I'll put Google to good use.

Something else, around where I'm at, I have these small game stores called McVans. Each store is normally run by two 20 somethings that are usually pretty cool and useful with questions like yous. If you have something similar in your town/city I'd suggest you go there. Like I said in a previous post, I'd take your system and a DVD right along with you and they'll hook it all up to a TV there.
I'd look into buying a DVD player. You can get a decent one for $30-50. If you're intent on using the PS2, I'd try to clean the laser, but I've not had much success using lens cleaner kits. Rubbing alcohol and a q-tip does wonders if you're confident in doing that type of thing.
That's good advice harmonica, but he already said he has another DVD player, but it seems his TV doesn't have a huge number of inputs and he doesn't like switching back and forth between PS2 and the stand along DVD player.
My tv has one scart inputToungue >_>

The amount of wires and such around the area makes it pretty awkward digging around for the plug and the scart and all the switching I would just find it really helpful to be able to watch clear DVDs with my PS2.
Go to poundland or something and pick up a SCART splitter, it's only £1! >_>

Seriously, when my Xbox started dicking about when I wanted to watch a DVD I went to the nearest Tesco and bought a cheap and cheerful Multiregional DVD player and it only set me back about £25 (plus it runs much quieter than my Xbox ever did).

QFT.

Seriously though d4rk, I can watch multiregion dvds it's just that would be awkward. I have dvd players and I have a PS2. Regardless of regions the dvd is green on it.

to be honest, the 6th gen consoles DID play dvd's just not very well.

Get a standalone player, it's much better.
I think people are missing the point.  The man wants to play his PS2 and not dick around with switching out AV cables, because it's already been mentioned that he has a standalone dvd player.  I think Cpt.McCloud has been giving a lot of good info from everyone, and I'm sure he'll have the issue fixed soon.
The best advice being ignore the ps2 as a DVD player. Toungue

I remember that happened to me once. I think it was because I was using an RF cable on that occasion for some reason. Are you using an RF or an AV Scart?

The AV is the one which came with the console?

I am using an RF to my knowledge, I got the cable separately.

Ah scratch that, after looking on google images I realize that I am using an RF scart (the straight forward tv to ps2 rather than several cables attached to a scart etc.)

I think G. was right, was the cables I think. I'll look into some cables tonight and see what I come up with.

No such thing as RF SCART Wink

This is the reason I asked, I know nothing of this area and I'm a sucker for being gullible at tech things?_?

If it's scart, it's at the very least a composite signal.

If it's a half decent cable it'll be RGB or Component.
