Will Kirby ever see the light of day on Wii?
"If you have been a long-time reader of GoNintendo, you know that I’ve been keeping tabs on the long-lost Kirby game from GameCube. I’ve had multiple people at Nintendo tell me that the game wasn’t dead, but no one knew what exactly was going on with it. Well, a sad bit of news has crossed our way. That delicious Kirby platformer from the Cube days apparently doesn’t exisit anymore.
Reader Adam sent in a bit that comes from the latest Official Nintendo Magazine (UK). They have an ‘Ask Nintendo’ section where readers get to send in any questions they have, and Nintendo will answer (or dance around) your inquiry. One reader asked about Kirby and the Wii, and the answer can be found below.
There are no plans right now for a Kirby game on Wii but there are plenty of Kirby fans out there, so in the meantime look out for Kirby in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl which will be released in 2008."

Well it's kind of expected we won't see a Kirby Wii game in the near future because Sakurai is focused on Brawl. With his focus, he has added more Kirby love in to the game (King Dedede FTW). When he's done with Bawl he'll move on to a Kirby Wii game, hopefully a platformer and not another Air Ride.

curse you Nintendo... Also the bit about looking out for him in Super Smash Brothers Brawl that ticked me off abit.
But there are now two new Kirby reps in Brawl for a total of 3, items and AT from the franchise and there's probably a boss from the game in SSE. For me that's enough to hold me off until Sakurai begins Kirby Wii.

this is disappointing. i enjoyed the kirby games. guess there's still the chance of another DS kirby. the last wasn't bad. i'd like to see what they could do with kirby on the wii, but i'd kinda prefer seeing Day of Crisis on the wii more
Man that sucks. I was really having high hopes for the new kirby game on the Gamecube. But cancelling it? Man thats dissapointing..
I feel like I've read somewhere that the Gamecube Kirby game was actually turned into Subspace in Brawl...
HOLD IT! the GCN kirby game was confirmed to be ported to the wii, along with DK bongo whatever, and super paper mario. unfortunately Sakurai has been working hard on Brawl, so there's isnt time to work on the game. i still think the game is alive, and once Sakurai is done with BRawl, we'll here something.
Yeah I also heard that they were porting it to the wii but maybe after brawl it might see the light of day. But for some reason i doubt it.
I think you'll see a new Kirby game on the DS before you see it on the Wii. Imagine using the Wii mote like you did in Super Paper Mario and "pumping" the Wii mote up and down to get Kirby floating in the air.
I think using the Wiimote like that would be a bit much. Using the Wiimote to attack and do specials sounds better then flailing the controller around to fly. That GCN game lookd so good, I hope it is ported to Wii though.

The thing that annoyed me in this quote is " we choose those that will provide the best entertainment value to the most people". This makes me think, Nintendo know that Kirby won't sell aswell as a casual game like Wiifit or something so lets just cancel it?

Nintendo needs its first party titles.

While digging around, some new info has popped up. A poster on Gonintendo, who goes by the name "Dolphendo" shared the response of a Nintendo service worker.
"Q: I know that the Gamecube version of a Kirby game has been canceled, and I also know Nintendo has no plans for a Kirby game at this moment. But is there still a chance there will be a Kirby game in the future on Wii, or the successor to Wii or even possibly the successor to that?
A: There have already been some Kirby games released as Virtual Console games, these games were originally from the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and Nintendo Entertainment System.
As you may have already found out, a Kirby (working title) game has been announced in Japan. So far, there hasn’t been an official announcement of a release outside of that market.
There are many reasons that Nintendo or any other Japanese publisher may decide to release a game solely for the Japanese market. These can include difficulty or cost of localization, the size and financial strength of the publisher, and (most often) the idea that the game will simply not be accepted or enjoyed in other markets.
However, there are (like you) real fans of those games or franchises in this market who would love nothing more than to see these games on store shelves here. I understand (and sometimes even share) your frustration! Having said that, please understand that those fans constitute a very small portion of the gaming public, too small to justify the costs associated with bringing a game here.
Of course, you never know what the future holds, as evidenced by the appearance in this market of previously Japan-only franchises like Advance Wars and Fire Emblem. Keep an eye on our website for all the latest news as it becomes available."
