JOHNSTOWN, Colorado — Two teens have been charged with killing the 7-year-old sister of one of them by beating her with imitations of moves from the "Mortal Kombat" video game, prosecutors said.

Lamar Roberts, 17, and Heather Trujillo, 16, were charged as adults on one count each of felony child abuse causing death, state prosecutor Robert Miller said in court documents released Wednesday and filed a day earlier.

According to a police affidavit, the teens were baby-sitting Trujillo's half-sister, Zoe Garcia, on Dec. 6 while the girl's mother was at work. Zoe lost consciousness and stopped breathing after the teens hit, kicked and body-slammed her, imitating moves used in the video game, the document said.

Trujillo and Roberts tried reviving the girl by putting her under running water and attempting CPR before they called her mother and paramedics, the affidavits stated. The girl died at a hospital.

An autopsy showed she had a broken wrist, more than 20 bruises, swelling of the brain, and bleeding in her neck muscles and under her spine, the affidavits said.

There were no listed phone numbers in the Weld County directory for either Roberts' mother, Linda Clark, or Trujillo's, Dana Trujillo. Sheriff's spokeswoman Margie Martinez said late Wednesday that she did not know whether either teen had an attorney. The teens were being held at the Weld County jail but were not permitted to accept phone calls, Martinez said.

Roberts said he was downstairs playing video games while the sisters wrestled upstairs, police said. But a witness quoted in the affidavit said Roberts told her he had kicked the girl.

The witness told police that Roberts said Zoe had told them to stop wrestling. According to the affidavit, when the witness asked why they didn't stop, he responded, "I don't know; I was drunk."

If convicted, the teens could be sentenced to 48 years in prison.

Such a sick story....
Who in the right mind would wrestle and beat a girl using "mortal kombat moves". These people need to rot in jail. I also have a feeling Videogames are going to get alot of blame for inspiring them to perform such outragous acts.
Sad

wow what dumbasses

i'm excited to hear what great input mr. thompson has to say about this as well, i'll be keeping my ears open
Man such a sad story. Its sad to see an innocent person get their life taken away for someone elses retarded acts. The only thing we can do is hope she rests peacefully.Sad I think that they need to die in prison...and come back as a rat in their seconds lives and die AGAIN in that same prisonSulk.  Even if they were inspired by a game it was their decision to beat her up. Its not like the game took control of their minds. But i bet one billion dollars that they are gonna blame it on the game and find the sneaky way out, like rats. This is gonna be a christmas + his birthday when Jack Thompson hears about this hears about this...
Very very sad, and to be honest it doesn't matter what kind of "moves" these asshole kids used on this little girl. They obviously are sick and twisted. I hope someday they truly understand what they've done at the remorse eats them alive.
That is such a terrible story, very sad. Anti-violence activists are going to have a field day with this one, including our friend Jack. Beating up such a young girl is horrifying.
those girls are sick. who would kill a girl that they're babysitting USING MORTAL KOMBAT MOVES!?!?

that's horrible. they need to stay in jail for the rest of their lives.

and obviously video games will get the blame, even though i think this is the only story ive heard in a long time about something like this happening.
im sure it started out as harmless wrestling. i do it with the girl im watching now, we "play-fight" and once in a while i'll accidentally tap her too hard and bruise her. if what Roberts said was true, then they were drunk and didn't know when to stop. one of the bad things about alcohol is that it has a tendency to make one lose a sense of strength and realize how hard or how fast you're hitting something. from my own experience, i'm a lot stronger when im drunk. not because i gain new muscles that i lose upon sobering up, but because i have subconscious inhibitors in place when im sober.

this was not intentional murder, nor do i think it was intended as abuse. it was two kids that took a game a little too far, possibly under the influence. they tried to bring her back, failed, and now they're going to suffer the consequences.

gaming is going to take a big hit from people like JT because the kids used "Mortal Kombat" moves. if it had been WWE moves, would THEY take a hit? what if they were Jet Li moves? its stupid to think that this is solely because of gaming. this could have also been the result of underage drinking. or it could have been purely accidental. one kick in the wrong place, the girl falls...
I enjoy it when people die due to their own stupidity, but hearing of an innocent dying due to someone else's stupidity infuriates me beyond belief.

Why were these two kids getting drunk while watching the child anyway? How many times do we have to read about someone else ****ing up due to being inebriated before we stop being suprised?

LZ took the words right out of my mouth. i dont believe the children had any intentions of hurting the girl in that way. the "FINISH HIM" move might have been so fast the little girl didnt have time to react before the boys knew they had done something wrong. i dont believe this was an intentional killing absolutely not

however ill refrain from doing a HADOOKEN! on my bf for fear of killing him.......

another reason to blame video games.....stupid children who dont know the concept between reality and imagination. they just need therapy and psychiatric care not jail time.
I agree with... everone.  They are sick and twisted, even if their actions were somewhat subconcious, and even if they had no intentions of hurting the girl.  Even if they were drunk, why would they consum alcoholic drinks while taxed with watching a girl, and a small one at that? This was in some ways a mistake, and in some ways an irresponsibility.
LOCK'EM UP FOR LIFE!!!!!!
if anything they wont go to jail. i can guarentee that due to the circumstances, parents would be blamed for leaving alachol in the house, allowing 16 year old BOYS accompany a younge girl, you question upbringing on the parents part

these children will be under strict psychological care i highly doubt theyll do jail time which is sad........these kids need a lesson in assrapage

i wouldnt call this an "unfortunite event." there were several decisions made up to the girl's death. the teens decided to drink. that alone warranted poor decision making such repeativily striking a child.

i personally didnt think this was an "unfortunite event" but thanks to the liberal court system, they will

First off, this is sad.

but what I want to know is, how can they call them "MK moves"?

If a character in MK punches (which they do) and I throw a punch.. am I using a MK move? They where simply fighting. If they so happen to resemble moves from a fighting game.. well.. wtf do you expect? They're fighting!

Anyways, glad I chose to abstain... I still don't understand whats so great about getting drunk. I'm betting whatever they're feeling right now is a lot worse then a hangover.
