How do you do that?

Press one of the F buttons on bootup. If it's a Dell it's F12. Go down to boot mode
and click Safe Mode

i made tender love to my computer once
ouch... that sucks.

I feel for you though--my desktop has made wonderful friends with a little guy named Trojan.AdClicker

I've tried a million different things and can't get it to bugger off...I can't even find the effected registries and whatnot. All I know is, any time I have an active connection to the internet on that thing, I suddenly get about 50 or 60 pop ups with ads for anti-virus crap and videos of Ana Nicole Smith (no kidding, those are the two ads I get Toungue ) and then it freezes as it tries to open MORE of them.

Any suggestions for me? I'd like to be able to use the internets on my computer

Firefox

Oh, come on now, do you honestly believe I'd run anything BUT?

Firefox is definitely not helping this problem. I haven't run anything other than firefox in years

Opera?

Safari?

There must be some browser it's not effecting, most likely Safari. I'm guessing the pop-ups won't be compatible with it.

The problem is that it's opening them in IE, but my comp won't let me uninstall it... I don't use IE, but it's what opens via the trojan
For HNB: I use nortin, so... http://www.symantec.com/security_respons...99&tabid=3 but it should work with any antivirus program

for Ricky: Note: I copy and pasted this from help

To start the computer in safe mode
You should print these instructions before continuing. They will not be available after you shut your computer down in step 2.
Click Start, click Shut Down, and then, in the drop-down list, click Shut down.
In the Shut Down Windows dialog box, click Restart, and then click OK.
When you see the message Please select the operating system to start, press F8.
Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode option, and then press ENTER.
If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER.
Notes

In safe mode, you have access to only basic files and drivers (mouse, monitor, keyboard, mass storage, base video, default system services, and no network connections). You can choose the Safe Mode with Networking option, which loads all of the above files and drivers and the essential services and drivers to start networking, or you can choose the Safe Mode with Command Prompt option, which is exactly the same as safe mode except that a command prompt is started instead of the graphical user interface. You can also choose Last Known Good Configuration, which starts your computer using the registry information that was saved at the last shutdown.
Safe mode helps you diagnose problems. If a symptom does not reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and minimum device drivers as possible causes. If a newly added device or a changed driver is causing problems, you can use safe mode to remove the device or reverse the change.
There are circumstances where safe mode will not be able to help you, such as when Windows system files that are required to start the system are corrupted or damaged. In this case, the Recovery Console may help you.
NUM LOCK must be off before the arrow keys on the numeric keypad will function.

No wonder your computer crapped out, Norton isn't all that great. May I suggest a different antivirus/firewall like McAffee or Kaspersky?

This is a simple browser jacker,

these will have regestry entries with the url's writain in unicode making it hard for the average user to spot,

easy way to get rid of them is to take the url's it sends you to,
convert them to unicode yourself and do a regedit scan for the unicode entries.

as for virus removal tools,
window's update and you will install malisious software removal,

on top of that use AVG one of the best Anti Virus's out there, updated every tuesday.

for virus threat manual removal,

use autoruns from systemsinterals, to find and disable any 'suspisous' software for the next boot (inturn allowing it to be deleated while not running)

Use 'Active Ports' to tell you what programs are activating on which ports, (allowing you to customise your firewall rules) and monitor for suspect acty, like multiple port hogs, lots of virus's do this to try and spread, also allows you to 'kill' the active program, and tells you the file path, so you can then delete or atleast stop the file running again by changing it's file extention.

under windows turn OFF 'hide file extentions for known types', and show hidden files and folders to easily let you naviage to suspect folders.

and finally, you can use process explorer too, but the previous 2 'active ports, and autoruns' are more lightweight.
