NES
1. Super Mario Bros.
2. The Legend of Zelda
3. Metroid
4. Super Mario Bros. 3
5. Kirby’s adventure
This was a difficult list to put together as The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. are very different games. But Super Mario Bros. is just too influential to be placed any lower in the list. The Legend of Zelda was incredible for it’s time due to the “you can go anywhere” open world type gameplay. The rest of the games just sort of fit into place after that. Metroid deserves the third spot as it was an amazing, but just not quite up to the standards of the top 2. It was hard to leave out Ninja Gaiden, Punch-Out!! and Mega Man 2, but it was decided that they would all unfortunately be runners-up. Every game on this list deserves to become a part of your Wii and are all classics that will be great to relive or experience for the very first time.
Not to be forgotten: Ninja Gaiden, Punch-Out!!, and Mega Man 2
SNES
1. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
2. Super Metroid
3. Super Mario World
4. Donkey Kong Country
5. Contra III
This was by far the HARDEST list to make. There are so many amazing SNES games out there on the VC that it really came down to trying to pick between an amazing game, and a slightly better game. Picking between A Link to the Past, Super Metroid and Super Mario World was tough enough. All three of them are incredible games that helped define gaming, but let’s face it; A Link to the Past was amazing back then and is just as great, and just as much fun to play today. Super Metroid and Super Mario World could've very easily been #1 any other day. After those three games it became very difficult to fill in the 4th and 5th spots. There are just so many fun games that could be included. In the end Donkey Kong Country and Contra III came out on top.
Don't forget about: Super Castlevania IV, Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, and Donkey Kong Country 2.
Turbo-Graphix 16
1. Bonk's Adventure
2. Blazing Lasers
3. Bomberman ‘93
4. Gate of Thunder
5. R-Type
This was an interesting system to pick for. The games are an eclectic bunch and Bonk's Adventure certain deserves top spot. There isn’t much to say about this list as the selection of good Turbo-Graphix 16 games out there is limited, only a select few fall into the "great" category. Like I said, not much to say so just take a look through the list to see if you can find something you like.
Sega Genesis
1. Gunstar Heroes
2. Sonic the Hedgehog
3. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
4. Beyond Oasis
5. Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
Some of you may be wondering, "Sonic in second?". Not that we really care what you think, but Gunstar Heroes has stood up the test of time and it’s still fun to play today. Aside from a few frame rate issues the game is spectacular while much like the Turbo-Graphix list, the rest of the games sort of just fell in place. With the Genesis most of the great games just stand out compared to the others which made this list fairly easy to put together.
Why not also try: Golden Axe, Landstalker, and Shining Force.
Nintendo 64
1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
2. Super Mario 64
3. Star Fox 64
4. Paper Mario
5. Mario Kart 64
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was an obvious shoe-in for the top spot on the N64 list but Super Mario 64 comes in a close second. After those two it became tough to pick. Star Fox 64 was quite an influential game when it came out, introducing the rumble pack (something which is unfortunately lacking in Virtual Console games). Paper Mario brought Mario back into the RPG world with a few twists in gameplay which certainly let it stand our from the other turn based RPGs of its time, while Mario Kart 64 brought the much loved Mario Kart series into the third dimension.
And if you've still got some points left: F-Zero X and Sin and Punishment
and i was going to have to make trouble if zelda wasnt at the top of the 64
