I am just wondering...

would it be too difficult to write a small program that will cause the Wii to check for a saved game data from the USB ports in the back?

I've never programmed anything in my life, so I have no idea if this is even close to possible, but it would seem like a good mod. One that would not require an Mod chip and that would allow you to connect a USB HDD to the back of your Wii. I am assuming the HDD would have to have the same file path as the SD Card.

My Wii needs a damn HDD afterall. Because its not a fridge.

I agree--my Wii should at LEAST be a walk-in freezer.

As for the topic at hand, though it sounds logical, I feel like modders would have already done so by now, so I'm thinking it's not possible. I hope it's possible, but I feel like it would have already happened

Well they'd need to find a way to make sure it can't be blocked out by Nintendo updates. So they might be working real hard.
