Well I for one just wouldn't waste the money on buying a brand new lite for for the looks. My money is staying in my pocket until Nintendo's next generation of handhelds. AKA after the DS era.
thats what i was thinking......please i hope for the love of god the DS doesnt become like ipod and reinvent itself 50 times a month......
Haha I know I agree. They are wasting good time and money making a new DS. It's just not worth it because I for sure won't be buying it if is is only it's appearance that has improved.
well heres the thing with the whole upgrade from the phat to the lite. the ds lite was a complete revamp

here look at the differences between the 2 models and then you tell me what the new one can provide to out do the DS lite

Quote:
Lite: Sleek clamshell design with that duel-screen logo on top of the closed system. About as big, when closed, as the original iPod. Pocket-friendly.
Phat: The two halves don't line up that well. In fact, the upper half sort of sits atop the bottom half. Not that easy to carry around in one's pocket.

Lite: GBA games will stick out a bit from the GBA game port. When GBA games are not being used, an awesome plug fits into the GBA port in order to keep the system looking sleek.
Phat: GBA games don't stick out, but when a GBA game isn't in there, an obvious hole kind of ruins the look of the system and can collect dust.

Lite: The power button is on the right side of the system, and is a slider.
Phat: The power button sits near the bottom screen. The volume control is in the same place in both models.

Lite: Stylus a little bulkier, especially on top. Slides into a tunnel in the middle of the unit itself. A marvel in engineering, really.
Phat: Stylus built for five-year-olds. Slides into the back of the unit.

Lite: ABXY buttons are taller, don't click when pressed.
Phat: ABXY buttons click quite obviously when pressed, and are very shallow. And smaller.

Lite: D-pad tall, maleable, designed like the Wii's D-pad.
Phat: D-pad flat, shallow, and clicky.

Lite: L & R buttons basically meld into the overall sleekness of the unit. Clicky.
Phat: L & R buttons stick up beyond the unit's casing. They are taller and not as clicky.

Lite: Start & Select buttons aligned vertically, along the lower half of the right side of the bottom screen.
Phat: Start & Select buttons aligned horizontally, attop the bottom half.

Lite: Requires a different power cable than the Phat or GBA.
Phat: You can use your GBA power cable on your DS Phat, which is a plus.

Lite: Comes in one color: white.
Phat: Comes in a few colors including grey, blue, and red.

Lite: Four levels of backlight brightness.
Phat: Just one level (on or off).

Lite: Microphone sits right between the two screens.
Phat: Microphone sits at the bottom of the bottom half, and a little to the side if I remember correctly.

Lite: Casing is like that of the PSP.
Phat: Casing is like that of the GBA/SP.

Lite: $130.
Phat: $120.

The software (main menu, Pictochat, all the web uplinking) is the same in both versions.

Lite comes in pink and black too ya know, and also the newest one which is Red ontop and black on the bottom, and if you import, you can get it in ice and navey blue as well.
yeah the colors are a big deal but i just copied and pasted from that forum that i didnt add my own words to the list of pros and cons between the 2 units
Nice find. It breaks down really nice.
Nice find. And wow, I didn'ty realise how much they had improved from the Lite to the Phat DS. To be hoenst, I cannot spot anything that Nintendo could improve on the next DS.
I don't really think they will make a new one unless they want what happened to micro all over again
