Full Version: Is there ANY way to use RB's Strat on GH3?

Yeah... sooo... I have both Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3. To be perfectly honest, I was only going to get Rock Band, then I realized upon opening it that it only comes with one guitar! Anyway, I figured I would buy Guitar Hero 3 so I'd have another game and a wireless guitar.

This is fine and dandy, as now I can play Rock Band with four people by using the Gibson from GH3 as a 2nd guitar. However, GH3 does NOT let you use Rock Band's Fender Stratocaster to play a 2 player game of GH3. Anyway, it makes me so mad at that company for locking out other guitars that if I can't get it to work, I will sell GH3 and just keep the guitar for RB use, and then completely trash talk Guitar Hero forever and ever.

Anyway, is there any workaround or news of an upcoming patch to correct this?

I Remember a thread about this before. Basically it stated that the company was just wanting more money for the unlock.
you can use the GH2 guitar.

and there doesnt seem to be an patch coming anytime soon.

Yes, but A) it looks stupid, and B) it isn't wireless (I know RB's isn't), but for the $60ish it costs, I'd rather just buy GH3 again and sell the sealed game, and keep the wireless guitar. That's just my point, though... I don't want to have to buy another guitar, mainly on principle and storage space.

I remember that, in regards to the PS3 version.

Your original post didn't state which console you were talking about sorry about the confusion.

Well isn't that a kick in the knickers... Rock Band only comes with one guitar? 'the hell? So for someone to play bass, you need to buy a second guitar?

Edit- Joker! Not all hope is lost my friend:

Wikipedia Wrote:
Other players discovered at the game's launch that the PlayStation 3 Guitar Hero III Les Paul guitar controller is not compatible with the PlayStation 3 version of Rock Band. This came despite previous confirmation that the Xbox 360 versions of the Les Paul controller and Rock Band are compatible, as well as Harmonix stating that any controllers that followed the open-controller standard would work. While this incompatibility can be resolved through technical solutions, both Harmonix and Activision have cited the other party as at fault for failing to correct the incompatibility. Harmonix claims they have a patch ready to be released, but it has been blocked by Activision.[83][84] Activision states that MTV Games is unwilling to reach an agreement to pay Activision to use the Guitar Hero III technology in Rock Band.

I know that piece isn't exactly positive it still leaves an open gap where this may be agreed upon in the near future. It would only make sense after all.

so who are you mad at? RB for not adding another guitar? or activision for not making their guitar work with the competitors?

Well, both actually, but I can understand RB removing the guitar because so many people already have one from some previous game, and to keep the price lower (originally they were trying to hit the 199 price point with 2 guitars, drums, and mic, but they released at 169, now I see why).

I can't really understand why the makers of GH are locking out other guitars. GH3 will literally tell you that you have an incompatible guitar peripheral and forces you to remove it before you can get past the menu. This was even more irritating, because I wanted to play a little GH3 alone before playing RB with a group, but I had to unplug all of my RB instruments before I could play GH3 with my wireless Les Paul.
