Full Version: Gifting WiiWare?

I don't really use or even look at the Shopping Channel on my Wii but had to in order to update my photo channel. When I clicked on WiiWare I noticed that you could gift many of the channels. I checked to see if I could gift the internet channel and you can for 500 points. The other WiiWare channels can be gifted as well for zero points (for free) but what would be the point? Surely, if another person has a connection to receive that channel then why couldn't they download it as well?? Also, I'm wondering if this could be abused. Say there is someone you want to annoy, what would stop you from gifting them a free channel or channels over and over again?? *Contemplates trying it just to see what would happen. Who should I try it out on...?
Update: I just tried gifting the Metroid one to someone on my Wii and I received this message:

Gift

username can't receive your gift for one of the following reasons:
-username's Wii number has either been changed or has not been registered with the Wii Shop Channel.
-username already has this title.
-username's Wii has a different country setting from your own.
-username has turned off receiving gifts in their Wii Shop settings.

I didn't even know you had an option to turn off that feature. I'll turn me to be on just in case anyone wants to be nice and send me something! =P Well, at least people can't spam the free channels on you to be annoying and no, I don't have someone on my Wii whose name is "username". I just wanted to protect the innocent. Ok, I actually don't want to show who would have been on the receiving end of the onslaught if it had allowed me to do it. Toungue
hmmmm, can you try out a gift on me? preferably pokemon snap
It is region locked, just so you know. And you need the Wii points to do it.
lol, I have never tried it at all but am seriously thinking about getting a card and having an OT contest and the winner will get a free game. I gotta get a card first though. We don't have them here "officially" so they cost more than the normal price. Right now 1,000 points costs about $35 U.S.
DANG!1!!1 I got 2 games, a wii points card, and a zapper for only 50-some U.S., and maybe ill import the non-region locked wiis from china...
Yeah, it is region locked. My Wii is a U.S. Wii and uses their NTSC for the Wii Shop Channel. The card for sell over here is also for the NTSC Wii Shop Channel. It's just the price is so ridiculous but we don't have any other options here. I already have all of the VC games playable on my Wii but would still like to try it out.

My vote is bring back you contest Mana, they were awesome and I atually won one of the last ones Smile And that price is ridiculous.

Yes, I can't be spammed!

I would love for your contest to start up Mana due to the fact I have bought nothing from VC and most likely won't be able to get a card any time soon and S. Metroid and Lylat Wars await! Although it is region locked for gift sending surely you could just tell the PAL gamers the code and they can purchase a game?
DAMN! I was going to get you to gift me them all. PAL doesn't have WiiWare yet -_-

We have wiisoftware channel which is wiiware, just different names.

No one yet has the 'true wiiware'

Ohhhh, it's that -_-

There's no WiiWare in there >_>

Wii Shop Channel = Wiiware + VC

Wii shop channel = Wii software channel + VC

We just get a suckier name.

oh mana dont waste your time in giving these "simple folks" gifts! remember you love me! lmao

nah that sounds like a cool idea [i have all the roms already and all the channels w00t!]

have fun with that!

Yeah, those were fun. Perhaps I'll have one soon just for the hell of it or perhaps two a month. One a week got a little tiring and it's hard coming up with something new each week.

Lol, yeah, I'd definitely send something your way if I do get the card but like you said, you have all the roms games already. I also have them all already on a discmy Wii via the VC channel. Ph43r M3h

Nintendo phails again.
All of their online is region-locked, except for sending Wii messages...
Useless.

And the gifting service overall is kinda useless, if they really wanted the game, they'd get the money for it, instead of yelling at everyone to gift it to them.
Why would you want to pay for a game for a friend when they could get it...?
Unless it's Christmas/their b-day/etc.
[/Over-exaggerating slightly]

[/Slightly selfish]

I gots a gift.

Now I owe him one.

:3
All these gifting services gaming companies are offering are retarded... honestly why would i send my friend some crappy game thats 5 bucks for his birthday... And how would i know if their gonna like it I'd rather get them something and give it to them IRL or mail it to them..

Pretty stupid concept IMO

Mod Edit: watch the language please
