i never sell to gamestop ever.... worth it to kep your games than sell to them..
The employees in my local gamestops (yes plural there is like 3 around here) are friendly and offer good advice from what ive seen and discussed with them...The preorder deals they have are very good as well.
Time for a Old Employee Moment....
Ok, you bought Far Cry, was it brand new?
If it was, then there is no way youre getting your money back. The most they could do, just being nice, is to give you store credit for something else in the store. and one of the managers will defect the item so it will be a wash [wash, a negative and a postive just equals out. No win, no loss] that if they were nice, if not then your SOL.
Now if you bought it used, you could return it. With a recipt of course for full value, that recipt is very important. always ask for one.
MY ADVICE
always buy a used copy if youre unsure. buying new means trouble, for you. not them.
At least gamestop would give you a refund for not liking the game. Edit - apparently not.
GAME's policy is to not accept any returned game unless it's still shrink-wrapped (or has the GAME Seal in place) and the customer has a receipt from the last 28 days.
Or you have to sell it at about 40% of the price for in-store credit. If you want cash? ~25% of the original retail price. Even if you purchased it yesterday.
Our prices are crappy too, You can get a much better deal on Play.com. The only reason I buy stuff there is that I get loyalty points and a Staff Discount.
Even then, a lot of stuff comes from Steam (Our prices are the same as the American prices, so games are generally two thirds of the retail price, due to the dollar being worth less than Jack Thompson's opinion) or Play.com
technically, no store in the country ever HAS to give you a receipt unless you ask for it. it's just better for the store to do so because it improves customer relations and makes things easier later on. yes, they lose some money by taking back sales, but they make more money when that person goes back to buy more things. so that being said, if you didn't get the receipt, it's not the store's fault.
secondly, if the employee gave you bad advice, he's an ass and shouldn't work there, but you're not going to win a lawsuit over it. best you could do is talk to the manager about it. he may get in a bit of trouble for not giving a receipt, but not likely fired, because as previously mentioned he's not really required to unless it's store policy. and he's not going to get fired for making a sale, especially for a crap game that they probably have a dozen of under the counter.

"Let the buyer beware"
Damn. I feel for you man.
