In a recent interview with The New York Times, Nintendo of America CEO Reggie Fils-Aime let loose another upcoming feature of the "Everybody's Nintendo Channel" which launched in Japan a few weeks ago. This feature is full DS game downloads.

We had already known about the DS demo download service offered via the channel, similar to the in-store DS Download Stations, but this news is entirely different. Due to DS having no internal (or external for that matter) storage medium, the titles will be downloaded onto the flash memory of Wii, and be streamed or temporarily downloaded onto one's DS console. There has been no announcement about release dates other than the fact that it is indeed coming. Another question will be pricing. Nintendo won't honestly expect consumers to pay top-dollar for games that they have to download every time they boot up their DS, also taking into consideration the fact that we won't be able to travel with these games unless they are downloaded beforehand and the DS kept on.

Currently, Nintendo UK has said that they have "not announced plans for a European roll-out at this time". This roughly translates to "It's coming, just not anytime soon".

We will keep you up to date on the latest gossip and news about the Everybody's Nintendo Channel as always right here on WiiLoaded.com

Well this is different than what was expected. Streaming DS games to play on your Wii? I definitely wouldn't pay for it but if it were free and you could download the games to try, kinda like renting them but for free and for a certain period of time then I would definitely give it a look.
Well that's already kind of on offer with the demo downloads.
where to store it though? i mean like the article says when you use a downloaded game, the minute you close it and power off, its gone! kinda makes no point unless to rip you off, nintendo comes out with an expandable storage for slot 2 kinda like the RAM expansion pack for the browser?

thats my 2 cents- either way if its free ill do it but it better be worth while
Well obviously if you download it for Wii you can keep using it for download on your DS. DS Carts can hold 64Mbits and so obviously that would be compressed.
Is ther any word if the Japanese are paying for anything with this channel? If anything this opens up possibilities for something similar with Wii. Of course we would need more space for this Wink
sounds awesome. even if you have to redownload it every time you turn off the DS it still sounds like it'll be pretty cool.
just saw this on the feed Big Grin w/ layla somthing
Sounds interesting, this is just for storage right?
uhhh i call shenanigans

Nintendo - New York Times story incorrect: no full DS game downloads via Wii
January 4th, 2008
“An article about the Nintendo DS video game system in the December 31 Business Day section (of the NYT) incorrectly referred to future capabilities of the device. The statement that complete Nintendo DS games will eventually be able to be downloaded into the device via a wireless connection with the company’s Wii game console is incorrect. Users can download games to play on Wii, and, in the future, the Nintendo DS will be able to receive demo versions of some DS games from Wii, but not the entire game. The demo will be erased once the Nintendo DS is turned off.” - Nintendo response

They incorrectly report news, and they spell Reggie’s name wrong? Down with the NYT!
