which core games are we talking about?

Kasaioni, from what I understand, TimeSplitters 4 was slated to be a PLAYSTATION 3 exclusive.

Here is a quote from a Dave Doak interview from GameInformer

GI: You’ve always been pretty high up on the latest and greatest hardware, you’re rolling onto the PS3 with Haze, but some of your biggest fan base was on Nintendo’s consoles, because there weren’t a whole lot of shooters on the GameCube. Are you thinking about putting TimeSplitters on the Wii, as well? What do you think about making a first-person shooter for the Wii?

Doak: I think it’s a good thing to do, and I think we want to put it on the Wii. And I’m sure it’s possible to do a control scheme that works. Also, if you want to start a petition for remaking Second Sight on the Wii, I’d like to see that as well, because I think that game worked really well, [laughs] because of the manipulation stuff.

Like I said, this could turn out like the Rock Band situation.

Thanks for clearing that up, I haven't read up on that lately.

There is the full interview, well, not really full, it has all the non-TS stuff cut out of it.

Well, the Core games really haven't been up to par either, and third party games are consistently lower rated than PS3/360 because of poor controls.  Even if the controls are decent, graphics are either not the Wii's best, or simply other things limit games, and I think this is the problem.

Exactly. I missed out on a great game this year with Tony Hawk's Proving Ground. Why? Because the Wii controls are crap. I'm sick of this being the reason why I can't buy multi-console games. If the controls are broken then the game shouldn't be released, no matter how much of a dreamer I may seem. Wii is a cash cow amongst many other things. I'm tired of having to wait for sequels to herald half-decent controls i.e. Red Steel 2

I don't want first games in an anthology to be a damn control beta.

Brilliant views! A page turner ^^
Wow, the honeymoon is over.

I'm going to completely disagree with you. Mario Galaxy was phenominal, and the controls took all of 5 minutes to get used to. While I didn't thoroughly enjoy the Manta Ray level, it wasn't luck that enabled me to beat it. I actually liked the ball rolling stages, thought they worked well.

If someone is looking for a challenge in games, buying first party Nintendo games is not a good place to look; it hasn't been since the 64 era (possibly SNES). Nintendo designs their games to be fun, and to the average person, fun isn't coninues and game over screens. To these people, may I suggest looking at 360's or PS3's?

Personally, I love the motion controls when they are done well. Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy, and Wii Sports are great examples. Most developers have dropped the ball here and pumped out quick ports or games to take advantage of consumers offering "motion controls" on a variety of games. I don't blame this on Nintendo, this goes back to those developers not spending the time and money needed to make a polished game. And why would they? It's a gamble whether their game will sell well.
I agree with almost everything you've written and I enjoyed reading it. There are a handful of games on the Wii that use the Wiimote very well but that's the problem. Just a handful? In my household Wii Sports, Rayman, and Wario Ware are still getting the most play out of all the games. They nailed the controls for the Wii exactly as they should be. Many other games use the Wiimote just because it's there and the controls end up being terrible. I played Sonic for a mere ten minutes before I got tired of having to move the Wiimote up just to jump. There are some games that the Wiimote is not made for.

Right now I'm playing Fire Emblem for the Wii and the way that it uses the Wiimote is basically how you would use the classic controller if it were wireless. I'm not complaining though because I'm glad I don't have to use unnecessary motions to walk, attack, etc... This game doesn't need any kind of special or "gimmicky" controls. I also like the option that I can use the other controllers with it as well. There are so many games that I don't enjoy playing because they don't give me the option to use another controller. So there are some games that the Wiimote will work really well with, such as sports titles, and then there are some games that should not use the Wiimote at all. This leaves you with two choices. The first choice is play only the games with great use of the Wiimote and skip the rest or play all the games and be irritated at games that use the Wiimote poorly. I don't see this changing sadly.

I too will probably be getting either a PS3 or XBox360 sometime this year and when that happens I'm pretty sure my Wii will only be brought out for party games at the house.
Am I the only one who finds it funny that almost all the big posters here at Wiiloaded are straying away from the Wii?

I agree with you, almost completely. I liked the LoZToungueH controls. Other then that, yup... I follow you 100%.

And this is the reason I've held out on buying a wii. And I'm guessing I'll once again skip this gen's system line-up.

But hey, I'm a PC gamer, and you can't go wrong with those.

I agree, but usually when I get pissed off at game because of a level or certain parts, it's usually a good game. Yes that means that I have gotten pissed off at TimeSplitters, mostly because of the challenges, which are very challenging (well no duh!) and also in SMG because of those stupid God damn swimming levels, swimmimg is very hard in SMG, esspecially when you're trying to lead those rockes to blow up a chest or bubble thing.
But as I said, usually when I get pissed of at a game, that means it's good.
Which is totally opposite for the Angry Video Game Nerd XD

When you have three grammatical errors in the first sentence alone, it's hard to keep reading.

That being said, I agree with some of the authors statements.

The Wii is turning into a DS for the home. 2008 is shaping up to be a DUD year. I don't care what anyone says, I'm not getting psyched to race Go-Karts and have Cupid fight a Pokemon doll. Not while 360 and PS3 owners are getting mind blowing games at a ridiculous clip.

I have no qualms with the GFX. I bought a Wii, not a 360. I realize the limitations. I was however hoping that there would be more developers working on better games for the Wii, not just "party" fodder.
ummm, sorry haters but a wii without a wiimote is just another game system...yawn

Yeah, but a Wii with a Wiimote and PORTED DS/PS2 games is just another game system.

The Wii without a Wiimote is a GameCube.

A.K.A.
A faliure.

Cause then the casual crowd wouldn't buy it either, and then, they don't have a target market at all anymore!

yeah, only the best selling failure in all of videogamedom...

could they improve some 3rd party games, sure, but who couldnt, hundreds of those lame bargain bin ps2 games come to mind but one mans garbage is another mans treasure

nintendo (DS & Wii) is still the best for gaming, by a mile

and for some of you...theres got to be a 360loaded out there for you somewhere, go find a place better suited for you and your 'hardcore' sensibilities
Since this thread is for gripes, here's a couple:
Here's an idea for all of you who own a wii and do nothing but complain about it.  Sell it.  Pretty darn simple if you ask me.  If you are holding onto it for one game, then you should know why you have it and quit the complaining about all the other "garbage" that has no effect on you.

The term "hardcore gamer" has been thrown around far too much on gaming websites/articles, and I think it has shifted meaning over the years.  A hardcore gamer has nothing to do with the types of games played, but rather the time devoted to video gaming in general.  There are/were many hardcore pokemon gamers, just like there are GTA ones and pacman years before.  The only requirement is that it has to eat time, not how many ounces of digital blood was spilt or lead thrown.

One of my biggest gripes is as long as "Carnival Games" outsells games like Batallion Wars II, and the few hardcore games coming to the Wii, devs are going to continue to make the unappealing mini-games, as well as Nintendo continuting down that path.

I agree with you on that one... and the rest. We should buy TWO copies of all the awesome games to out-sell the crappy, mini-game filled(sorry Wario)games. If it goes on like this, hardcore gamers will lose interest, like us.

EDIT:

You're wrong. A hardcore gamer is somebody that's obsessed with video games... Somebody that would ditch work, school, and all other responsibilities just to play video games. Somebody, who's so obsessed, that they get good, and expect a challenge from a rehash of an old series they played in high school, and found it challenging then, only to find that SMG has been...

DUMBED DOWN!

I find it disappointing that the observatory had no hidden stars in it, like SM64 where they had all those little hidden switches, and different caves and stuff to go to to get stars. Sure, they had the little Green-Star Triad Galaxy thing with the gimmicky levels, but that's not good enough for me. The fact that you get to play as Luigi after you get all the stars is pretty cool, but that's beside the point. SM64 was so much harder than SMG, or... dare I say it? *shudders* SMS! If they added in a little more difficulty like in SM64, that might just hold me on to the Wii. But until then, I complain about easy games!

ffs, I wrote it as a rant, it later got portalized. Quit whining, if I had known it was going to get portalized, I would have actually reviewed my rant before I posted.
