Ok, guys and girls, let me tell you what's going on. I have a Nintendo Wii and I enjoy some of the games on there but I feel it's only giving me part of my gaming need. I like the Wii for party/family type games but that's about it. I'm waiting for Brawl and Mario Kart but there's nothing else that is attracting my attention right now.
One of my favorite types of game to play are RPGs or MMORPGs. I'm currently playing Fire Emblem on the Wii and an MMORPG called Cabal for the PC. I've been debating on getting another system for a couple of weeks now. I've gone back and forth on if I should get an XBOX360 or a PS3. Right now I'm leaning more towards the 360 and I'll tell you why. Below are some facts about both systems and my situation here.
The XBox360 has more games that interest me, the online play is much better than that of the PS3, and I can get the games here for only $5 each. The PS3 games cost over $60 each here and most of the games that are available in the stores are Japanese. I'm a huge movie fan and have well over 500 DVDs but no HD DVDs or Blu Ray movies.
With the above information it seems that the XBox360 is the obvious choice for me. I have two choices here as for as the 360 goes. Over here I've seen only 2 versions of the 360, the 20gb model and the 120gb model. I'm leaning more towards the 120gb model because I plan on downloading demos and movies onto it.
In conclusion, I have a couple of questions that hopefully you XBox360 players can answer for me.
1. Which version of the 360 do you think I should get given the facts above?
2. If I buy an XBox360 over here (in Thailand) would it be possible for me to play XBox Live games with those of you in North America?
3. Is there anything I need to look at when buying an XBox360? Any special serial number/model number, etc...?
4. Does the controller that comes with it have rechargeable batteries inside and if so do you charge them by plugging the controller into the 360 via USB or ...?
5. What accessories do you recommend that I should also pick up for my 360 if I get it?
1. Which version of the 360 do you think I should get given the facts above?
I'd go ahead with the 120 GB if you are going to be doing alot of downloading. like I got my 20gb yesterday, and it only have about 10GB of free space because of stuff that was already on the harddrive.
2. If I buy an XBox360 over here (in Thailand) would it be possible for me to play XBox Live games with those of you in North America?
yep
3. Is there anything I need to look at when buying an XBox360? Any special serial number/model number, etc...?
well I know that all the 20gb 360's that have the HDMI port have a cooler heatsink, but the 120gb already came with HDMI and not the new heatsink, but the newer 120gb's do, so I''m not too sure on that one. maybe just go to a really popular store where alot of people shop, and most likely they will have the newer Elites there
4. Does the controller that comes with it have rechargeable batteries inside and if so do you charge them by plugging the controller into the 360 via USB or ...?
it comes with 2 double A batteries but they aren't rechargable. they die after about 10 hours of playtime..
5. What accessories do you recommend that I should also pick up for my 360 if I get it?
get the Play&Charge kit. it comes with a rechargable battery, and a cord that you plug into your controller and 360's USB port and it charges while you are playing. both versions come with a headset so you won't need to worry about buying that extra (the elites headset is wireless, the 20gb's is wired, but just into the controller so its like "50% wireless" lol
Ok, thanks for the info. Any game recommendations? I definitely want some good RPGs as well as any kind of co-op games.
is the xbl video marketplace available in thailand too? reason i ask is because some countries dont have access to it. i think canada just recently got access to the movies.
JRPG: eternal sonata, FFXI(but theres a monthly fee)
WRPG: oblivion: goty, mass effect
Co-op: gears of war, rainbow 6: vegas, crackdown(online co-op only), beautiful katamari(offline co-op only, i think)
Thanks for the game suggestions. I've heard about Eternal Sonata and I'd pick that one up for sure, along with Gears of War, Halo 3, Mass Effect and some others. I remember hearing about one game that I thought was an RPG called Blue Dragon. Is it any good?
I'm not entirely sure how it would work for the marketplace over here. My Wii is an American Wii and when I go to the VC channel I see and can buy games off the American VC. I have a couple of friends here that play the 360 and use LIVE but I've never asked about the marketplace. I'll have to ask them soon and I'll let you know.
not really a fan of JRPGs, but theres a demo for it on xbl. i personally didnt like it.
I'm liking the idea of downloading demos. Even though they're only 5 bucks here, 5 bucks could be better used for a supersizing of my lunch and some desert so I'll definitely be checking out the demos. If only the Wii had this... Thanks for the heads up though.
Stop talking about pirated games. xD
I believe Elites made in November on have the newer, cooler hardware. That's not for sure, but I think I heard someone saying that...

No, the headset that comes with the Elite is wired, as well. Doesn't matter, though, as it's wired into the controller, and the only way it wouldn't be long enough is if you tried to play with your feet or something

I didn't say I would purchase them.

Yeah, that sounds fine. I really want to try it out. I think every online game should have voice chat. I've almost died so many times playing mmorpgs that don't have it and trying to type and fight at the same time.

correction canadians minus me. knew about the region locking and i made an xbl acccount in the states , not only do i get the movies which are available in canada i get tv shows and pictures that arent yay
also mana the date manufactured should be on the back sticker above the serial number, like noodle said try getting the elite aver nov 2007
Ok, I will be sure to check the sticker. The one that I'm getting is not even here yet. They have to order it for me because they're sold out at the moment.
Also, I forgot to tell the update about the marketplace. I asked my friend who owns a 360 here about it and he says he can download from the NA marketplace without any problems so that's a good thing.

Is the monthly fee for FFXI in addition to the Live fees?

yeh, but you can also play FFXI with a silver account. you'd still have to pay for the monthly sub required by sqenix.
Not really anyone is playing FFXI anymore.
Yeah, I don't play games that you have to pay monthly for. I've played some in the past for the PC such as Lord of the Rings Online but in the end I find it a waste of money. I'm ok with paying for 13 months of XBox LIVE as the price seems reasonable to me.
Yeah, Live prices aren't too bad and def worth it.
