While the Xbox360 users have been enjoying the ability to download trailers, game demos, Xbox Live Arcade games, gamer tag images, and Xbox 360 Dashboard themes and PS3 owners have been enjoying their version of the marketplace, the Nintendo Wii owners have been sitting on their hands waiting for downloadable content. The wait may be coming to a close sooner than we suspected. WiiWare was unveiled back in June 2007 and it has been pretty quiet up until now. What we already know about WiiWare is that Nintendo plans on limiting developers to one game per month and that Nintendo has asked for the games to be kept small in size. What we don't know is when the service will be launched.
Recently, some news about the release date of WiiWare was divulged but surprisingly not by Nintendo. According to Engine Software, the launch of Nintendo WiiWare should take place in March this year. The Dutch company has been working on a WiiWare title and stated that Nintendo's download service will be launched in March. When a Nintendo representative was asked about Engine Software's comment they simply responded:
"Nintendo has not made any official announcement regarding the launch of the WiiWare service,".
While they didn't give us the release date of WiiWare it is interesting that they didn't deny that it wasn't going to launch in March. I'm not exactly sure where Engine Software got their information, whether it's a date they dreamed up or if someone at Nintendo leaked a date to them but it's interesting nevertheless. It's about time that Nintendo started catching up to the 360 and PS3 in the downloadable contents area.

That's cool, I hope that it really will be released in March. I mean your completly right when you say it's about time they catch up with the 360 adn the PS3.
This is very good to know, thanks Mana and Alex for editing! I just dislike the fact that in Europe it's called "Wii Software"

Wii softWare
Same thing but bigger and better.
Yeah, it's about time they jump on the downloadable content bandwagon. I wasn't aware that it had a different name in Europe but I prefer WiiWare anyhow.

Even if this isn't launched in March, I'll be busy playing Brawl to notice. But if it does, that'd be great!
I just hope it won't be half-assed. Like a lot of Wii-related stuff before.
There will be a mix between crap and quality titles. I hope it's true, seeing that's when Japan gets it.
