Disney considering DS as a tour guide

"Disney seems to have a thing for the DS. They used the portable for one of their Pirates of the Caribbean in-park promotions, and it went fantastically well. Now Disney is thinking about taking things a set further. Imagine using your DS while in Disney World in order to view a map of the entire park. Say you want to go to Space Mountain. You can route out the fastest way to get the attraction as well. You can even see how long of a wait there is to get on the ride! Now that’s one hell of a feature. If plans for this do go ahead, there should be a trial period within the next few months."

It looks like the DS is really making an impact in a lot of places. I think giving the DS the ability to become a tour guide would be a pretty neat feature. I also heard that the DS could work as a map when coming off a train etc.
Maybe other companies may start to follow Disney and their decision to make the DS a tool for their business...Either way it gives Nintendo even more publicity, but hey it’s not like Nintendo need anymore than they are getting.

If this happends then Nintendo's DS sales will sky-rocket, and there'd be no need for a new DS.
This is a great idea! DS's sell well now but they will sell a heck of alot more if Disney did this. Nice find Billy. Smile
that's so freakin awesome. wish they had that back when i went to disney world

not sure if sales would "sky-rocket" from it. would you really spend $120 on a map when they give paper ones out for free? i think it'd be advertising more so. i could see my mom seeing that: "You can see the whole park on it? isn't that that new Gameboy?" (she thinks all handhelds are gameboys and all consoles are Nintendos Toungue) "That's nifty." (yes she says nifty ... often) "Maybe I should get one if they cool stuff like that."
wow thats pretty neat......*sigh* i wont be going to a disney park anytime soon....im in canada
Wouldn't it be cool if your DS could track where ever you was? I think it would be great if they made something for the DS that could make it be used as a SATNAV lol. Toungue

Yeah, that would be cool. I think Nintendo are trying to go for something similar to a SATNAV at the moment. You never know what the future holds for DS.

Wow that sounds amazing. Nintendo revolutionary!!!
The DS thing would be neat, but since i don't have a DS i'd much rather stick to the map Smile
- In-park testing began 2 days ago
- 60 families a day will test the device
- 10 day test period
- get access to show schedules, fastpass information, parade routes, interactive maps (featuring everything from attractions to restaurants), locations of characters, pinpoint where you are at any given time, provide you with games/trivia questions based on the ride you are waiting to get on (gives you something to do while waiting in line!)
- doesn’t sound like you can use your own DS
- exchange credit card for device. If stolen, a $300 charge will be placed
- service is dubbed the ‘Disney Magic Connection’
- If test goes well, a full version of the service open to anyone could be available by Spring 2009

Full steam ahead for DS.
aah, so it'd be a special-edition thing that only Disney has...i was hoping it'd be something you could use on your own DS, but i guess it makes sense this way. it'd make tracking a bit easier...as well as keeping tabs on all the systems they have so you're not in NY wondering the quickest way to get on Splash Mountain...
i figured it would've been either a DS cartridge with some sort of traccking thing in it, or like a demo and just DL it at the gate, then it disappears when you turn it off

surprised no one mentioned this, but has anyone thought about the battery life? if you're walking around with the DS on trying to find where to go, do you think the battery will last the whole time? suppose if you keep turning it off or putting it in standby, and it has a full charge, it might last 12 hours. wonder if they'll have charge stations or special Disney extended battery packs. Toungue
boy wouldnt this be nice if it was in the news portal

*sigh*
