I have always enjoyed Point and Click puzzle adventures like Myst and Day of the Tentacle, and it just seems logical the Wii would be a perfect fit for this under-appreciated genre.
Like the title implies, gameplay controls are simple to grasp for gamers of all ages, so that fits Nintendo's current casual+ strategy. Couple this with (usually) amazing storylines and freedom from sitting in front of a computer screen and it seems to me like this genre could be the next big thing for the Nintendo Wii.
The DS has already had some minor success in the arena with Hotel Dusk and the Ace Attorney series so it isn't like this is a completely from left field.
Unfortunately, the Wii title, Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barboros’ Treasure, although a critical smash, hasn't sold much.
So I wonder if you think these type of graphical adventures have a future on the Wii?
if done properly, these games could be amazing for the Wii. however, i don't see them being a huge success with the consumers. in general, people want more action than slow paced pointing and clicking. true Myst was a huge hit, but that genre died quickly. there are many point/click games coming out every year, and some get very good reviews, but that's about as far as they get. Siberian and its sequel have been claimed as the greatest adventure game next to Myst, but the sales were nowhere near those of Myst
i think games that incorporate small amounts of the point/click function could do very well, such as Phoenix Wright and Hotel Dusk. that way the deep story could progress easier with the adventure aspects, but still keep some action to keep things from getting dull
unfortunately i don't see this happening on the Wii. if it does it'd be maybe 2 years down the road. supposing the Wii's successor retains the same general control setup (mainly just the pointer), companies may look into porting those PC adventure games over to the Wii or creating new games for it. if Tim Schafer created one of his signature adventure games for the Wii, we could see an explosion of games featuring the genre
if its an easy and inexpensive to port, gawd, i can see every point and click coming over even if sales are slight, maybe on the Wii ware channel?
that's a good idea. create some more simple ones and release on WiiWare, or even VC (which ever it'd fall under). take some of those classic adventure games like Indiana Jones, Sam & Max, Day of the Tentacle, even Myst. of course the controls would have to be edited to fit the Wii, otherwise we're not really seeing the potential of the genre on the system
i forgot about indiana jones...i loved that game
yeah, i definately think there is some potential here
lol Drew...im lovin that siggy. Perfect way to
make mashed potatoes!
They should make a video game like that hahah
Mod Edit: Please keep your comments appropriate and on topic, Thanks.

Wii...
...Ware?
hmmmmmmmmmmmm
interesting czmq...
Since we're on the topic of point-and-clicks, I would absolutely love to my all-time favorite of the genre blown-up on my TV, and wouldn't mind a string of Wii games or warez in this particular direction:
