Full Version: Brawl Delayed Once Again.

I'd like to bring to your attention the "The Wii Launch Title Release Syndrome" in which a Wii game that was slated to be a launch title meets repeated delays well beyond the initial time slot and becomes more of a rinse, lather, apologize for delay, repeat game than the spectacular launch title we hoped for in the beginning. You may remember such games that showed symptoms of this such as Super Mario Galaxy, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and now it seems Super Smash Bros. Brawl has befallen the same illness. Only a few days ago there were rumours flying around that some retailers had changed their Brawl dates to March. At first we all thought this to be a mistake, and optimistic gamers everywhere even went as far as to outright insult anyone that believed there would be such a delay. Unfortunately for us all, such a delay did happen. That's right Smash fans, Brawl has been met with another delay. Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which once held the launch date of December 10th, 2007 and then February 10th, 2008 now has a new date. March 9th, 2008. Nearly a month after the new date provided at E3. With the announcement of a second delay in America, can the Japanese still rest easy? Nope, even with the recent announcement that said they're in the gold stage of production, Team Sora rained on their parade as well. Rather than a month though, Japanese gamers saw a week delay and their new release date is Jan 31, 2008. Not as long as the February 10-March 9th delay, but still annoying nonetheless.

If you allow me to digress for a moment, I'd like to express my concerns as to why it was delayed. At E3 Reggie Fils-Aime announced the initial Brawl delay and Sakurai confirmed that it was to develop the online portion of the game and to "make the game the best it can be". Reasoning for this recent delay however is cryptic and vague, saying only that there were "delays in the completion of the game". A game that has already began printing onto discs. That sounds pretty completed if you ask me, so that begs the question, "If there's strictly something wrong with the US version, then why delay the japanese version?". I don't understand, for a game that's already being written onto discs I don't see why it was delayed. Also, why only a week as opposed to a month? Who knows? One thing's for sure, I'm disappointed, as are many people out there who feel the same as I. So to all those who plan on avoiding the internet in order to avoid spoilers concerning the final roster, stages, and movesets... Good luck, you have another month of hiding.

Nice one Ricky!
Pain. That's all there is. Pain.

I expect pretty much the entire Melee roster back, minus Pichu, Y. Link and Dr. Mario. And thus allowed Roy, Falco and Ganondorf decloned. Megaman had better have been added. And if Ridley isn't there then is delay is wasteful.

Seriously Nintendo, how often do you need to DELAY your games?! This has even inconvenienced me as an importer xD
maybe I'll preorder another copy ?_?

DAMN STRAIGHT! I also expect to see Smash Bros. 64 on VC sometime soon, it won't make up for it but it damn sure is a start. 8 WEEKS. F'IN 8 WEEKS. WAY TO FAIL!!!!

Lol.

W/e gives me time to buy my 12 months free XBL, and play up some Lost Odyssey which comes out FEB 12th! MAYBE THAT WONT HAVE A DELAY.. D:

*is in denial*
Brawl > Eternal Sonata.

Anyway, this gives me extra time to save up the $200 to mod my Wii + import this game.
*blows up*

enough said?
You can't tell by looking at the letters in my post but each one was punched, not keyed in. I almost threw my mouse through my laptop screen, almost broke my table in half, many things did fly across the room but I was in such a rage that I can't even remember what they were. Jack Thompson may be right about video games after all because right now I feel like killing someone! Brawl is the ONLY reason why I haven't sold my Wii. The first delay practically killed me. I somehow survived it and now this happens. I know it's only one more month but it's one more MONTH! Let me try to think of something not so negative. Feb only has 28 days so it will go by faster? Hell no, it won't! Honestly, I wish I had never even heard of Brawl and then one day they just said, "oh, by the way we made Super Smash Bros Brawl. We just stocked the shelves with it. Enjoy."
Not a big deal.  There was a delay for a reason, don't really care what.  All the backlash/complaining they receive just gives them more reason not to release info early.  Think about this: they are ridiculed for not releasing any info far in advance (which is very hard to do in terms of project status/life); then when they do, they are chastised if they don't hold true to that info.

Everyone acts like a 3 year old in a checkout line with a parent who won't buy him candy whenever a game gets delayed... guess ps3 and 360 fans can chime in here about appropriateness...
Who cares about info? We'll have it all in 15 days when Japan gets it. Because who cares if a game like Brawl gets spoiled honestly? Its just a fighting game.
Yeah straight up. Its not like brawl had a deep story mode to begin with. They shouldnt have delayed it. I better at least see a third party newcomer soon to make up for the delay. But I will really be pissed if they had the delay and it didnt benifit the game at all. Come on nintendo...do we really wanna relive the Twilight Princess dilema???
I wonder if Nintendo feels the "Wii base" is so loyal that these kind of delays will not matter?

I think people should be afraid of what might happen March 09. Don't even think about Mario Kart, because with delays on SSBB you might not see that until 2009.
Disapointing for you guys, try living in Europe. Thats where the pain lies.
Again, all people in PAL need to:

A) Import a NTSC Wii.
or
B) Mod their PAL Wii.

ok...take a deeeeeep breath. BREATHE!

for pete's sake, you guys are all children -_- he announces a delay, and you all blow up; he doesn't announce the delay and you all get your panties twisted. yes, im upset that they've made the release date later again, but at least they havent said that they're taking it out of production this late in the game...

do they have a logical reason to delay the game again? probably. does it involve adding a new character or tweaking something awesome? probably not. the most likely cause is something that went wrong during production. THIS HAPPENS. something might have shown up when they were doing the Japanese version, and they realized that the game can't be released like that. or maybe something happened with the programs and everything that's running in the game that they have to go back and find and re-do something minor. will we see the difference when the game is finally released? probably not. but i'd rather have a game that works perfectly than a game that has a major glitch in it that they didnt catch til after production.

a delay shows up, and you're lunatics. like i said, at least its another delay and not an "oh, sorry, you were waiting for this game? oh, well we decided we didn't want to finish it. im gonna run now before you can chop my head off, bye!" yes, it hurts, but did you really expect anything else from the King of all Delays?

Yeah, it is Sakurai. He's pretty useless.

I think you went way overboard on your observation. Members are venting their frustrations in different ways, and they have every right to.

I do think that those members who live in parts of the world that don't see these games until months after the US market should think about what LMX wrote above, because it seems like you guys always get the short end of the stick.

To further explain what I said, Sakurai can't compare to the truly great game developers like Miyamoto and Kojima. So I suppose its not really his fault.
