I have the origanal HDMI for my upconverting DVD player and my television so I'm wonder if an HDMI 1.3 cable will be different with the way it plugs into a device or if will be an identical cable that can just push more info kind of like the difference between usb 1.0 and usb 2.0.

I ask all of this because I'm looking into buying my own PS3 which I believe uses HDMI 1.3, but my telelvision is only 720p/1080i HDTV, so I'm wonder if I'll be able to use my HDMI cable and hook to the PS3 from my telelvision. I realize I won't be able to get 1080p from the Blu Ray player or games, but I hope the cable will work between the two.
It should work. They wouldn't change the shape of an input would they?
AFAIK, HDMI 1.2 passed only video (hence that extra part that comes with the 360 elite). HDMI 1.3 cables pass audio and video through the HDMI port. If the TV supports 1.3, you'll get sound, if not, you'll still get 1080i/720p video with no digital audio.

There's a small chance the PS3 and your TV will handshake improperly, but that's a very, very small chance.
HDMI 1.0 - supports audio and video.
HDMI 1.1 - DVD Audio (I think)
HDMI 1.2 - New audio standards, PC-related additions
HDMI 1.2a - Adds HDMI-CEC
HDMI 1.3 - supports 36/48bit colour, a higher bit rate, Audio Sync, HD/Lossless Audio, Higher Resolution
HDMI 1.3a - HDMI-CEC changes, Some minor video stuff
HDMI 1.3b - Higher frame rates possible??

There is no reason why you couldn't use a 1.3 cable between 1.0/1.1/1.2 devices.
Yep, same cable, and 1.3's are cheap online (<$20 for sure)
Yup, thank you all for the information. I have plenty of HDMI cable, I get mine at http://www.monoprice.com which everyone should check out.
That's exactly where I get mine, gft
