“The Wii and the DS are selling very well, but in terms of software Nintendo is obviously the best-selling developer by far. It has the best understanding of the new market it has created. Nintendo can be very happy about the situation right now, but for a developer like us, and we’re probably in the majority, the situation is difficult…To be honest, we almost wish for a platform on the market that is none of the above (Wii, 360, PS3). But of course this isn’t possible, so we’ll have to adapt to the market.”
Now, Suda 51:
Quote:
“Whilst the sales weren’t as high as I hoped, other titles for Wii aren’t selling so well either. Only Nintendo titles are doing well. This isn’t just because of the current situation in Japan, as this is happening outside Japan. I am very surprised about the reality about Wii, because before I was making this game, I wasn’t expecting that Wii would be a console targeted only for non-gamers. I expected more games for hardcore gamers. The reality is different to what I expected”.
First of all, let me say nobody wants third partys to be disappointed or frustrated in developing for the Wii, but as for first party sales, of course Nintendo has a leg up on any third party coming in late to the party. And we as consumers trust Nintendo games are going to be worth the $50 more than any third party title, so it shouldn't be that big of a surprise.
Make great games and the money will come...hopefully
