LTTP = late to the party. not link to the past. lol
so after finishing up a playthrough on mass effect, i went back and started playing half-life 2. i actually have this game on PC too, but for some reason i kept having a lot of framerate issues and it was just ruining my overall impression and experience with the game. so i stopped. i had the settings around medium to low and my PC just couldnt handle it. oddly enough,i didnt have those issues with BF2.
anyway... im actually really enjoying HL2 except for the air boat level. omg, that just carried on way too long, but after you pick up the gravity gun, things start to get interesting. it's actually quite refreshing to play a game that doesnt hold your hand throughout the entire campaign. the puzzles in particular are cool. they definitely help to break up the shooter-on-rails moments. i am getting a little tired of the physics puzzles though. yeah, i get it. you guys have physics in your game. it's definitely unlike any other FPS game i've played. the levels are so different from each other that it never feels like i've previously played through a particular level. im def. looking forward to playing ep.1 & 2. i think im at the level called "entrapment" feels like im almost nearing the end, am i?
i also finally got a PS2 copy of MGS2:S. im actually quite surprised at the level of detail and nuances it has. voice dialogue is still sub-par imo, but the animations and in-game animations/details is incredible. for a console game that's nearing 5 years old, it holds up really well. something i found odd is that not too many people talk about the game's humor. once i realized that it's not trying to be the ultimate stealth game, trying to figure out how snake can have an inventory of cardboard boxes, weapons, and misc items and not seeing it physically on him become trivial. the controls are a monster! ive put in about 4-5hours of playtime and i still screw up sometimes. parts i have the most trouble with is him crawling when he's on his knees or all the butons i have to hold to accurately shoot someone. substance comes with a lot of playable side stories and an in-game 300+ page book. not sure if i can muster reading off the tv for that long, but we'll see.
so yeah, the hype for both games is truly real and completely justifiable. im glad im finally getting to experience these games and even though i havent completed them, they already feel like timeless classics.
