First off, spose the director isn't a one trick pony after all. He actually showed what was going on! Of course, they never discussed or revealed what the critter's origins were, but I could honestly care less.

It tore Manhattan apart, and that's all that matters.

Anyway, my thoughts:

- Could have done without the first 30 minutes of the movie. Pointless character buildup for uninteresting people.
+ The pacing wasn't half bad. Sometimes it focused too much on a stupid thing, but then quickly made up for it with something awesome to see.
+ The star of the show was a very curious looking creature. Strangely goofy yet still frightening in appearance due to it's size. The dangling T-REX arms were cute.
+ It's babies/parasitic droppings were awesome little beasts. The horribly explosive blood-gout infection received from a bite also made sense - who knows what nasty bacteria is within their jaws!
? Strangely, Cloverfield could be called a love story...

WARNING: BULLSHIT AHEAD!!

If I had to guess what that thing was? I'd say that it's just a creature from the depths. And those things that kept falling off of it? Either A: It came to shore to let it's young loose as animals often do, or B: Those things are actually symbiotic parasites. Like those little fish that cling to larger fish to clean them of bits of uneaten such and such.
You messed up the phrase...

'I could honestly care less' Saying that you could care less.

Should be 'I couldn't care less' Saying that you couldn't care less.

I was one of those people following this film as an addiction so I was quite hyped about it until I delved deep in and when he revealed production notes and when I read a detailed plot of the film.
That was a silly thing to do, don't you think?

Very. I've only seen the monster once and am trying to forget the plot so I may be good to go on Feb 1 xD

I just saw it today. I felt it was good but it ends rather abruptly. I wanted to know more about the creature. I DID want to know where it came from, why it was so pissed and destroying everything, what the hell happened to the girl that got bitten, what happened to the one check that got separated from the rest of them near the end and got on the other helicopter, and some other questions that may have slipped my mind. It may be brilliant that they left out so many of the details as a way to get people to talk about it and perhaps see it again to fill in the missing pieces or it could just be an incomplete movie that they couldn't think of any good idea for those questions so they left them blank. I'm hoping it's the former though.
a few of my friends said the creature reminded them of Sin from FFX...only with awesome spawns coming off of it.

we don't think it's water-based, because it stayed on the island. with the bridge, we figure his arm was long enough that he could reach it from the city.

i think it was a great idea to keep the origins and whatnot of the creature in the dark. nobody knew where it came from, so why should we? even if the government did know, they wouldn't tell us. we don't think it was so much pissed as "ooh, food, and im hungry. oh, you're shooting at me? well, im not hungry anymore, so im just gonna keep chewing you guys up til you learn your lesson." (reason why the camera guy got spit back out)

the girl that got bitten - there must have been something in the creature that caused the pressure inside the body to increase at a rapid rate, which explains her eyes and what happened next. she wasn't killed by the soldier, she exploded...the girl that got in the helicopter died. that thing that got thrown to the ground as the rest were getting into the next helicopter? we think it was her helicopter.

as you said, badwrong, i could do without all that fluff at the beginning, just a short and sweet intro would have been nice, but i guess they needed it to have the character development throughout the rest of the film. the ending i thought was appropriate. nobody made it off Manhattan; the government was going to nuke the thing and sacrifice everyone that was still left on there. camera batteries only last so long, and it gave a more "realistic" feel to it, where not everything ended with a resolution and saviors.
The internet claims that the whispers you hear at the end of the credits? Those are of the "main" character and his squeeze. He's saying, in reverse: "It's still alive." So take that however you will.

[Edit]

The only other notable thing is (and I missed this) before the credits start and his girl says she had a great day, something falls into the ocean, like a small capsule. There's this whole retarded "Alternate-Reality-Game" surrounding the movie that goes into this weird conspiracy things I'd suggest you all steer clear of.

...and I just felt like posting this randomly.

The monster we saw in Cloverfield seemed less driven by hate and more immensely confused. It acted like an animal. If you want deliberate action, just take a look at what Godzilla does above.
The monster intriguied me. I completely missed the object falling from the sky. I ahd to have it pointed out for me.

But yeah, this movie was actually interesting. And to be frank. I'm glad the couple died at the end. I wouldn't have liked to have seen a mushy happy ending which I was actually expecting to get.

I didn't notice the whispers either though, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was still alive.

@ LZ- Lol! We had the same thought. Two of my friends thought it was a lot like Sin and I likened it to a Zerg. There was another reference but I can't remember it.
To clarify things: That "capsule" falling into the ocean at the end of the movie?

Yeah. That really isn't a conspiracy bit. It's an "OOPS!" - after the movie was released they realized someone screwed up in post production. I love it when that sorta stuff happens...
Hmm, where did you hear that?
I really enjoyed the movie, though I thought it was much too short. What is the running time? 70-80 mins, including that 20-minute or so uninteresting intro to the characters? I thought the use of the handheld camera effect was used very effectively (for the most part) and really added to the atmosphere of the movie. Monster and parasites were both pretty cool. I am kinda torn on whether or not I want to know where it/they came from, but I think I am ok not knowing. It adds to the intrigue and a cheesy backstory could taint an otherwise exciting experience. I really wanted to keep on watching at the "end" though.
Just something cool I found on another site. If you mirror the poster for the movie you can see the monster, well sorta. Take a look below.

That's kinda cool.
We still don't know where the monsters come from, same as the type of camcorder they're using? Good battery, he can use it as a flash light for quite a long time and it's even shock proof, still manage to function after the helicopter crash, I'd sure like to have one of these for my IRON MAN short film. Really Happy

I think they're making a sequel right now light they did for 28 Days later.
I saw it with my girlfriend, and my opinion was that it was a little short. But I do love it when a film doesn't have a happy ending ^_^

It looks like a nuke going off >_<;

kinda short but not too bad, reminded me of 28 days later, kinda

never saw the thing fall from the sky that is cool

i liked the exposition/character development at the beginning, made me care about some of them
Right....I know I can explain lots of things about this film. The monsters origins...etc. They were all subtlety revealed for those who cared. Slusho's background is very deep. Of cause it is conspiracy what I will reveal but it's all we have and it seems oh so true.

Spoiler: (hover to reveal the text)
Side note...That thing falling in the ocean is a Tangusko (sp) satellite. Apparently that is what enraged the baby monster so much to come to surface.
