I think the most obscure game I've played would probably be one of Capcom's long-forgotten arcade games like The Speed Rumbler, Eco Fighters, Varth, etc.

I'm going to say Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. Pretty dark and boundless game in my opinion.
Either you haven't played many games or you've misread the thread title. I'd hardly call Zelda II obscure, seeing as it was one of the top 10 best sellers on the NES.
hmmm... zelda II isn't that obscure. and not that it was the greatest selling game of all time, but pikmin isn't that obscure either. it did become a players choice game for gcn. it sold over 100,000 units in the first wk. there was also a 4 wk period in japan after the pikmin soundtrack was released that pikmin sold an average of about 100,000 units per week.
The first truly violent videogame I ever played was Technocop. Man, looking at clips of it on youtube in modern day? it sucked.
Another obscure violent videogame of the olden days was Death Duel. Think an arcade shooter with godzilla sized cyborgs and mutants you get to blow apart piece by piece. Got really nasty too, popping eyeballs and shredded limbs.
