but the DS is FUN and has LOADS of fun games, more than enough out already and more great games coming out every month,

Really? Because I count New Mario Bros and Mario Kart DS that interest me. I see nothing on the horizon "every month", that even remotely interests me, funny isn't it? Isn't it also funny that these "Playstation ports" are a lot like the desires of many gamers in a handheld, more wholesome games for a handheld, less quick play.

Hmm, perhaps this is a matter of OPINION. How about "I believe the DS has better games that cater to my tastes, and the PSP isn't really what I like". Rather than being a flame bait troll.

My opinion is that I prefer the PSP for it's superior technological abilities (media player/browser/gaming device). I also find the games on the PSP much more engaging, with the widescreen and graphics that look more to date. That's my OPINION.

It's all just opinion and that's usually what every argument boils down to. Personally I prefer the DS' games while I could care less about the PSP's tech. I do prefer the widescreen to just the DS screens but it's not a big thing. In the same way you can count two DS games that interest you, I'm the same with the PSP. It's all just a matter of what someone is looking for because personally, I don't want my handheld to pretty much play console games. That's why I have a home console while the handheld is meant for the shorter and quicker pick up and play games.

I HIGHLY doubt it, not just because of the great sales, but because of all the new technology they'd have to (and want to) put in this "new handheld". Its just to soon. Maybe in another 3-5 years.

Not to get all over the PSP here, but the PSP has technology that is leaps and bounds past the 33 and 66 MHz ARM Processors in the DS.  It's very likely that they could use something like an Intel XScale and get a 600 MHz processor in a handheld, no problem whatsoever.

w-wow...my brain just died a little bit...soo many numbers and capitalized and un-capitalized letters...Wooo

the browser is crap on the psp, so is the media player.  gaming is great because a) the screen is awesome and b) its moddable

I use both browsers from time to time, the DS browser is much worse, IMO.

All handheld browsers are crap, but experiencing both, at least the PSP's browser is usable (unlike the DSes). The media player works fantastically, I'm not sure what you're saying. It plays MPEG-4 Theora encoded videos well. I'm also glad that it supports my Hi-Fi encoded ATRAC3 audio files, so I don't have to use the MP3s of my songs. (I keep my ATRAC files for PSP/PS3/NETMD Walkman, Minidisc stereo player, and the MP3s for running with my iPod).

The screen is awesome. I don't have a moddable PSP, and gaming is still quite the experience. I can play what is basically a PS2 game in the palm of my hand.

I want a new GameBoy with power to completely wipe out the PSP. We're talking GameCube or X-Box equivalent graphics just to show Sony that the handheld belongs to Nintendo.
yeah but then the fanboys would just find some other gripe to dismiss it...it will never stop, there are probably still dudes out there pimping the dreamcast as the console above all others so its just ridiculous

i just let it go, i say you play what is the most fun
Rest assured the DS isn't going anywhere for a long time. Why would Nintendo risk millions on a new handheld when they're making that on DS. And no, the next DS isn't going to have awesome graphics. It just will not.
i think it has awesome graphics now, the games on it look really good

some of you talk like it has atari 2600 graphics...jeez
I think the graphics are amazing on it now. Just look at Dragon Quest Monster: Joker. that thing looks like Dragon Quest VIII.
Maybe people should compare Joker to Goldeneye: Rogue Agent or Tony Hawk's American Sk8land to see what a few years do to graphics. That could at least shut them up about the Wii having "bad" graphics.

I would just like to note, of the game is SUPPOSED to have graphics that may not be "really good" like Wind Waker (I think they are incredible myself) then the graphics are not bad. No one gripes about Okami being cel-shaded. If the game is not realistic, then why shouldn't the graphics reflect that?
The likely hood of a new Nintendo hand held is slim, seeing how they are no longer making any more Gameboys and the DS selling like crazy I dont see it happen

also I'm pretty sure Nintendo ran outta ideas for the most part.
Like motion sensing controls right? Boy, they must be running out of ideas. Especially after completely unoriginal games like Pikmin and Super Mario Galaxy.
thanks pancakes, you beat me to it

good one
You're welcome.

the gameboy pocket came out in 1996
the gameboy color came out in 1998
the gameboy advance came out in 2001
the nintendo DS came out in late 2004

Well Gameboy was released in 1989, and pocket, color, advance and sp were all based on more or less the same tech, slightly bigger screen, color screen, different size shape game carts.

as for DS-Lite, it's the ds redesigned like a wii and smaller to boot. so it's like the ds pocket. Toungue
no need for a DS color as it already is
but the next step could be the DS advance (6 screens, plugs directly into your head and cooks your dinner)
with a slight upgrade to a DS SP, coming soon after.

well to be fair we can forget the advance and the SP becasue they were just trialing the new DS hardware in the wild, advance had that funny look and shape similar the DS, the SP had the folding Screen.

My premonition

1989 (gameboy) - 2004 (ds)
thats 15 years, right there
the gameboy itself lasted for a v long time, so i'm betting

nintendo's new hand held, to be announced 2015 to 2017.
and release 2017-2019!!!

however i forgot to mention the Virtual boy, released in 1995, so that would put date between
1989- 1995 = 6 years. hmmmmm. so could we looking for 2009 announcement and 2010 release for a new
ninty handheld.

i wouldn't hold your breath, the next one is bound to suck/not come out at the right time/have competition that acctually kicks it's ass.

no one thought much of the ds at first but its done okay, so next gen nintendo handheld will be fine
