According to issue 178 of Game Informer:
"We all love Miis. They're cute; they're funny. So why aren't we seeing more of them utilized in Wii games? Because - in all its wisdom - Nintendo doesn't want that to happen. According to some developers, Loose Talk has spoken with, Wii developers have been begging to integrate Miis into games more, but it's Nintendo that keeps slapping developers down. Of course, some games do use them, but the whys and wherefores of who Nintendo lets use Miis remains a mystery to third party publishers and developers."
I can't imagine why Nintendo would be discouraging the use of one of the more unique aspects of the Wii's software. And, food for thought: if this is the case, that Miis are being supressed, does that mean, in turn, that there's very little chance we'll be seeing an update to the Mii Channel with more customization choices?
Discuss.
edit: There's a rather cool article on a GI staff member testing WiiFit for five days-- He lost five pounds. If you guys want me to take a break from reading my jillions of articles and stories for Post-Colonial Literature, say the word and I'll type it up and post it here for those curious.
hm...it might be that they want to keep the Miis on a need-to-use basis...if they were to use the Miis, they may have to reduce gameplay or graphics to work with the sphere hands, etc. I haven't really played as a Mii on any of the games that let you, but if it's anything like it is with WiiSports, the no-legs and no-arms when a Mii runs or swings their arms etc. may not be the best thing to design a game around...i'd rather have characters and such that are fully developed.
I think lz said it well. The problem we see with the Wii as it is is that developers are turning a large crap to good ratio on the console. To allow devs to do this, it's another way they can get lazy and half-ass even more of it.
It may not sound readily apparent to some, but I really feel Nintendo is doing this as one measure of quality control.
I don't own a lot of Wii games, so I don't know if this is done often, but where I really appreciate Mii usage is for profile creation (zum Beispiel: WarioWare).
Is that done in other Wii games? I think even doing that in a game adds a certain personal touch-- and at least that usage I can see being justifiable in most future games.
But, I see Iz's point.
If you play Mario and Sonic at the Olympics you can see that they implemented the Miis quite well in that game. They gave them a more realistic body with arms and legs to go with those feet and hands and I thought it was pretty good. It is kinda strange if this is true.
they probably just dont want anyone making a FPS where you can massacre all the miis of your friends and family

And that's too damn bad. Really
Yeah, if they could make one that was comical I guess it wouldn't be too bad. Think of the South Park FPS game...on second though, don't.

yea, in Mario Galaxy. you can do the same thing and use any of your miis to create a profile.
edit: and i wish we could do more with the miis in the mii channel. like make it its own game. make houses, restaurants, families...awesome

Animal Crossing is on the way with rumored inclusion of Miis.
Who is developing/publishing Animal Crossing?
I'm not a big fan of Miis anyways, it would be bad for them to be over used. But I agree, a game that involves killing your Mii friends would be cool.
itd be cool to like attack each other and shiz...ever heard of "Interactive buddy" where you blow up and mutilate the little dude for money. (not as dirty as it sounds) well something similar for da miis! And can't wait till the animal crossing comes out...don't know why but those games are so friggin addicting!!
