My UK-purchased Wii arrived in Japan today and after setting up with the help of a power converter I'm getting a setup screen which is bouncing up and down. I've tried hooking up to a a couple of different TVs and fiddling with their settings but it's the same story.
Now, as far as I understand, both Europe and Japan are PAL regions but I get the feeling this looks like some kind of compatibility problem. Other guesses would be a faulty AV cable or damage in transit.
If a UK Wii cannot work with Japanese TVs I'll have to look into component to VGA converter cables and use the damn thing on my PC Monitor.
Any thoughts would be appreciated,

I was under the impression PAL was Europe only, and that Japan and the US shares the NTSC version sometimes-- but I'm somewhat sure that the Wii has three specific versions, one for each region.

Japan uses a different system to Europe I believe for when it comes to TVs, but they're still PAL.
