Full Version: Watch out for Best Buy

Just found out that Best Buy over-charged me big time when I got the warranty on my HDTV. If you buy a television from them, make sure to do it online and get the online 4 year warranty price and not the in store one. It might just save you $150 literally....I need to go into Best Buy and raise hell.

If you have any other questions feel free to PM me.
Lol, I came into this thread thinking it was going to be a gripe about the PS3 you just bought, xD.
Still better than my experience at Circuit City the other day. Trust me, NEVER go to a CC again, I was treated like a criminal when I bought my PSP. (Which sucks, because now I'll have to order my Minidisc supplies on Amazon, beause CC was the last retail store that carried them (I think CompUSA does, but anyway), does anyone know retail chains that still sell Minidiscs?)

Nope, I'm really like the PS3.  It's become my media hub (sounds cliche').  I really enjoy Oblivion on it, love the Blu Ray movies, regular DVDs look great, and I like streaming my media from my computer and watching it on my television with it.

When I bought my television a year and a half ago I went into Best Buy after doing a lot of research to pick it up.  Online the 4 year warranty price was X amount of dolor's, but when I went into the store I was told that was a mistake.  After grilling them on this (because the in store 4 year warranty was much more), I was told that if I were to purchase the online warranty for the TV, they would not recognize it.

Well my television is being repaired (hopefully scraped) on Thursday and as I was going through my paperwork, I checked on the Best Buy website to see if they still carried any TVs similar to mine.  They did have 1 model and I saw the 4 year warranty price on it is $49.99.  I payed $199.99 only 1 year 6 months ago, and cried fowl, because there can't be that big of a difference in such a short period of time.

I called the 1888 number and talked to a lady, and she nonchalantly told me that I could take my paperwork back to the store and try to get a price match. I was kind of surprised that she so freely gave me this advice (after probably talking to her manager, because she had put me on hold to consult someone), but I get the impression that different online and in store 4 year warranty prices are a norm or at least were.  So I'm going to see what I can do about that.

It seems like I have one good experience with Best Buy (as in the 20% off my PS3), but then they donkey **** me in some other way, and I'm getting tired of it.

Don't feel too bad, whenever I go into Circuit City the sales people are too busy talking to one another or just ignore me totally.  When I was a bit younger, I'd walk through a store, didn't matter which, and I'd get watched as if I was going to steal something, which never made any sense to me.

when I ordered my laptop from circuit city, the lady i talked to on the phone was nice

I'm sure the people at CC can be very nice, but in my case, when I walk into a CC store you'd think I had the plauge. I don't know what there is about it, but I know it's not just with me, because I know others who have the same issue. I generally have to go and get help, otherwise I'm left all alone. Sad

Best Buy repair guy just left and said my picture tube was shot even thought the voltage and everything is running excellent. They will not replace the hardware because it's not cost effective so I get to go and deal with my best buy store to get the tv for the price I want it at Smile
damn that sucks. what a jackass.. I thought stores these days were about excellent customer service. the best buy in my town is annoying though but for the opposite reason, I go in and within 5 seconds there is some annoying guy asking me what i want etc. then i tell him im just browsing, then 5 seconds later another associate, then another... they're like pirahnas. anyways, hope you get the problem solved.
well it's not so bad Wenis, because after an hour and a half instore, they gave me the full amount I payed for the tv 1 year 6 months ago to put towards a new tv.

So the TV I want is not in stock so it's going to take them 4-5 days to get it, and luckily Circuit City has it for $100 cheaper, so that'll help take the cost down a little more.
