I downloaded the demo so I thought I would share my impressions. It is a long download (~1.2 GB) and offers about 20 minutes of single-player gameplay.

This Turok is, as expected, much better than its predecessor. The gameplay mechanics here are pretty solid, although it won't challenge the bar set by other top FPSs like Halo 3 or Call of Duty 4. Perhaps the most interesting addition is the hunting knife which allows you to pull off violent, cinematic stealth kills and finishing moves.

Of coursethe most important part of Turok is the dinosaurs. They both look and act realistically: as violent, blood-thirsty carnivores looking to eat you. They provide a fairly formidable challenge to bring down, especially the bigger ones (there is only one big dino in the demo). Strangely, it also takes a lot for them to bring you down. You have to take a lot of damage before you die. There are also smaller dinosaurs and larger herbivores who wander around, minding their own business, but still add to the organic feel of the environment.

On the technical side of things, the graphics are fairly impressive. The dinosaurs look outstanding, but the human characters could use some work, particularly their faces. Environments look good, but have some noticable last-gen shortcomings. I also noticed a few times that the framerate chugged under some action sequences. The music is good and the sound effects are usually very atmospheric. That is until you are in battle. I was disappointed to find that the gunfire sounds strangely quiet and hollow, and in the intense up-close battle sequences, the dinosaurs sound similarly distant and uninteresting. Perhaps they are petty shortcomings but I felt they take away from otherwise intense encounters. Maybe these things will be improved in the final version of the game.

Anyway, I am convinced to at least give this one a rental. The dinosaur FPS scenario is way too cool to pass up and is clealry done better than ever in Turok from what I've seen. I'm also very curious to see how the online multiplayer will turn out with 16-player matches in dinosaur-infested maps.
Good to hear. I might download this demo sense it wasn't on Marketplace before, and it has to be better than the Turning Point demo. (If you don't know, don't ask, don't download, lol.)
nice review!

im gonna pass though. the game just doesnt interest me.
My only question, and the deciding factor of whether or not I buy this game:

IS THE CEREBRAL BORE BACK???
I thought the demo was lacking. Raptors are supposedly intelligent pack hunters, yet they spawn in monster closets? The color palette too was typical of Unreal Engine (muted and mostly gray) as even the jungle didn't look very lively.

A demo's a demo, but it for damn sure didn't give me a good outlook on how the actual game will turn out. This ain't the Turok I remember (Dinosaur Hunter/Seeds of Evil) from the N64.
I'm downloading the demo on PSN right now, and I'm glad to hear you write that's it's better then the past Turok games. The last one I played...it took forever for the game to load between areas and it was a mess. I hope this one is much better and actually bring Turok back to the WOW this is a great game status.
I've had this demo for about er...a week or two now (OXM) and I play it all the time. It's just awesome, OXM had already reviewed the game. They gave it a 7 because it does have some shortcomings and it can be insanely difficult. They said the best part is muliplayer and that it's incredibly good.

I honestly loved the demo and I found the graphics very nice. I definitely agree that everyone should at least rent this game.
I just finished playing the demo on the PS3, and I don't think it would be a game I'd get into.

Everything played pretty well, but I have a feeling it's going to be a terribly hard game at times. Plus, I'm not sure how close the demo is to what the actual game will be like, but there were a number of things that were missing like walking through water and actually see ripple effects.
Played it today my friend let me borrow the demo he got with his preorder, and it was really fun. I mean it was hard but only once you get into the jungle and the soldiers are there. That is the only part I hated, the soldiers coming in to kill you. What is with that? There's like no backstory...
Although your review was pretty good i think im going to pass on this one, it doesn't sound like my kind of game.
Rental worthy!

Imma buy a used copy. Then return it.
