Nintendo to Clean Japanese Wiis Over Smash Bros. Errors

Today, Nintendo issued a statement that reported disc reading errors for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The statement says that fans who bought Brawl had an issue with their Wii being unable to read their newly bought disc, or of videos chopping up during playback. The people that reported this problem, tell that they never had this problem with other Wii games.
Nintendo has come to the conclusion that the problem is caused by dust build up on the Wii laser units. We didn't have that problem before because Brawl uses a dual layer DVD, which is apparently more sensitive to a dirty lens.
Those in Japan who have suffered from this problem will need to send their system, warranty card, and copy of Smash Bros. Brawl to a Nintendo service center in Kyoto. Nintendo will be paying for the shipping, so there's no loss for consumers, except for a one week period without Wii.
This is a problem that we hope that we don't need to face outside Japan. If we are lucky, we won't have this problem. I don't want to buy Brawl and find out I need to send my Wii in for a week to get cleaned.

Yea this would suck if that happened here, maybe Japan should have been the one who also got a month delay

But it depends if they use the new type of dvd disc here. If they do we could have the same problems.
dual layer actually isn't all that new. It's just the first game on Wii to use it.
This *IS* an annoyance. If this were to happen and I were to import then I would be unable to send my Wii away to have its lens cleaned... because PAL Wii's won't have to worry about it and I'm assuming Nintendo would find it slightly suspicious.
So you would send your wii to the cleaners just to get it cleaned no matter what?
Hope this is all fixed by March 9th.
Actually, my warranty has run out now anyway. So it really doesn't matter either way.
Damn! I wrote this up and you just beat me to it ZeldaFan Lol.
It would really bug me if I just purchased Brawl, tried to play it on my Wii and watching it fail. After all that time Japan have waited, and now some of them can't even play their copy. I would be so annoyed.
lol, I'm super fast. I would hate to watch the big error show up on the screen.
