Phil Says Six More Weeks of Winter!

Phil's official forecast as read 2/2/08 at sunrise at Gobbler's Knob:

Here Ye! Here Ye! Here Ye!

On Gobbler's Knob on this fabolous Groundhog Day, February 2nd, 2008
Punxsutawney Phil, the Seer of Seers, Prognosticator of all Prognosticators,
Rose to the call of President Bill Cooper and greeted his handlers, Ben Hughes and John Griffiths.

After casting a weathered eye toward thousands of his faithful followers,
Phil consulted with President Cooper and directed him to the appropriate scroll, which proclaimed:

"As I look around me, a bright sky I see, and a shadow beside me.
Six more weeks of winter it will be!"

Then I guess you'll be glad to know that according to a couple studies the groundhog is only accurate roughly 35% of the time.

Ditto.

O wow didnt known that, thanks!
So basically all it means is that the groundhog knows nothing at all. Toungue
Well... its a fifty-fifty chacne isn't it?
Either winter's longer.. or shorter.

I didn't know anything about groundhog day until last year... do we even celebrate it in Canada?

Where have you been these past years? :l
And if by do we celebrate, you mean do people gather 'round a hole in the ground for some furry rodent to tell them how much longer winter is gonna last like a bunch of idiots, then yes, we do celebrate it here in Canada.

i actually live w/in a half hours drive of punxsutawney, pa. i'm not too fond of the rodent, myself. my town is where most of the meteorologists and journalists covering the groundhog get hotel rooms for the day. there also tends to be masses of students from indiana university of pa (iup... not associated w/ indiana university) who take bottles along w/ them on busses to punxsutawney to get drunk as that seems to be a good excuse to drink in the wee hours of the morning for a good amount of the students... particularly the frat/sorority factions.
