I was planning on getting a 52" LCD from Samsung that was Full HD and had 100mhz refresh. The one I wanted to get has since been sold... I didn't get to it in time and now I have to find something else. All of the other LCDs I've seen seem way overpriced and not worth it. Today I saw a 50" LG Full HD but it's a plasma screen and not an LCD. Is there a huge difference between the two? I looked at two of them side by side and the LCD and Plasma weren't much different. I've heard that the plasmas are more inclined to have burn in but I don't expect to be gaming for more than 3 to 4 hours unless we're having a party. Anyone have any advice or info???
I think the only reason to worry about burn in with the plasma is if you paused something on the screen for long periods of time each day.
I'd check
http://www.wikipedia.org or just do a google search on LCD and Plasma differences.
Yeah, I've heard about leaving it paused. I have my PS3 set to use the screensaver after 5 minutes when not in use at the moment and if I need to pause for a longer period of time then I often just turn off the TV until I get back. Thanks for the link.
Plasmas have a glass front that causes a terrible glare... would not own one for that reason alone.
Why don't you consider a DLP? You can get a large one for a low price with better quality picture than LCD/Plasma, but it won't be as thin.
Mana, can you give us the product number for the set you were going to buy, that way we could see the specs and find something very similar for you.
I've heard about the glass cover but the one that I looked at in the store wasn't noticeable and it is very well lit. The model number is 50PB4RT. It has a contrast ratio of 15000:1, it has Time Shift, It has an 80gb built in hdd that can record 33 hours of video, it has one tough, 2 x HDMI, clear filter, USB 2.0 support, 1080P input, Dimple Speaker, Simplink, and a bunch of other stuff.
What was the model number for the Samsung?

the burn-in also happens with static images. like life bars in fighting games or HUDs in FPS games. a friend of mine freaked when, after playing 4 hours of SF2THF on the 360, the life bars were burned into the screen. lucky for him they eventually went away.
Well, I've down some research on Plasmas today and most sites have said that current Plasmas are much better at reducing burn in with all the new technology and features they have in them.
The TV that I was going to get before it was sold was the Samsung F8 LA-52F8aB. It's a 52" LCD with 100hz Motion Plus, Full HD 1080p, 1920 x 1080, Contrast Ratio: 25,000:1, 3 HDMI, and other stuff. The guy said I could order it but it might take a while to get more in plus the price is almost triple the price of the 50" LG Plasma.
In Thailand everything here is cheaper than in the U.S. except for Cars and Electronics. TVs here are normally overpriced as well depending on the manufacturer.
Samsung F8 52" Price in U.S. Dollars: $7,666
LG Plasma 50" Price in U.S. Dollars: $2,576
Now I'm not sure of the price of these TVs in America but I'm sure they're less than this...
