Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix has announced that he would like to see his company develop more titles for Nintendo's Wii console. Currently there are no Square Enix games on Wii, however Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors is set to hit near the end of this month in North America, while Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers is currently in development.

Both these titles however are spin-offs from their main franchises and this announcement could possibly mean the arrival of the main series' on Wii or even more spin-offs. Square has also shown they won't be hesitant to developing for WiiWare so this could also mean the arrival of new franchises through this medium. The entire article is in Japanese though and the simple translation did not help much in pulling more information. If there's anyone who can read Japanese any help here would be much appreciated.

The Young Price and The Promised Land is the WiiWare title, The Crystal Bearers is the Wii title that only has one video on it. Chocobo tales look interesiting though, good to see them on board Smile
The real question is.

How many of them will be quality?
The answer to your question, Cloud:

None.

They'll all be spin-offs, and they'll all be dumbed down and lame.

GIVE ME CHRONO TRIGGER!!!!!!
The one video I've seen for The Crystal Bearers looks really good, but Square has probably put it on hold to develop the WiiWare title which is basically a FF version of SimCity.

Whoops. But I could've sworn that they announced The Crystal Bearers was gonna be WiiWare.

Don't know, the WiiWare title has taken over what little light Crystal Bearers had.
They should have just stayed with Nintendo in the first place. The first 6 games of both Dragon Quest AND Final Fantasy were on the NES and SNES.
And then when Nintendo refused to go to the CD-ROM Square jumped ship and went to the PSone.
I don't think Crystal Chronicles would meet the limit size wise set by Nintendo for WiiWare. If they do make it WiiWare then I feel it's a bit mistake. The spinoffs are bad enough but now the Wii can't even get spinoffs... Hopefully, they'll make some real games that are built from the ground up for the Wii.
The WiiWare title would probably be at the max, but there really isn't a lot of depth to it. Your building your Kingdom for people live in and you charge them taxes and such as king.
Perhaps this further solidifies the rumor of KH3 on Wii?

Crystal Bearers is NOT the Wiiware title. 'tis a fact.

The Young Prince and the Promised Land IS the Wiiware title, 'tis also a fact.

Also, as I see people are saying that Crystal Bearers is a spin-off, it's hardly a spin-off really. I mean it's in the FF universe sure but's it's been built from the ground up for Wii and is much different then the other FF titles. I'm REALLY looking forward to it.

QFT!

This is a GREAT example of how Nintendo shoots themselves in the foot over and over again with their dumb little grudges they hold.

Lack of Megaman in Brawl--I'm looking at you. (Rumor though it may be, it seems pretty likely given the big N's track record...)

Yeah, but letting in a bunch of third-party characters would ruin what super smash bros is all about.

By the way, X-play is on with smash bros as I'm typing. Kinda cool.
I'm hoping this gives way to an actual Mushroom Kingdom Hearts! "A girl can dream can't she?" Big Grin
I can only hope KH3 doesn't lower itself to Wii. I want to see it really dazzle my eyes with visuals and depth that the PS3 can give it.

Give the Wii Wiimakes of KH1 and 2 if anything, but don't put 3 on it.

And Crystal Bearers IS a spin-off. Because anything that isn't part of the numbered FF's isn't an actual FF game. Its a spin-off.
All I hope is that if KH3 does eventually come out on the PS3, it doesn't do what Ratchet and Clank did on the PS3...

Crystal Bearers is a spin off, but it still looks awesome. And just because it isn't numbered doesn't mean it isn't a FF game.
Of course, its an FF game. Just not part of the awesome main series.
Well the main series isn't linked anyways, its a differnet story each time, not tinked to any of the other ones (with the exception of some easter eggs ) the only exception to this is X-2... *shudders*

Anyways, more games is never a bad thing. Better to get spin-offs then nothing. Because, by some miracdle, a spin-off could turn out descent.
You mentioned X-2! That is a sin of man. Take it back now xD

Anyway, yeah I know none of the main FF's are linked (although there are rumours and speculation that FF-VII and FF-X are linked... only makes sense, they are two of the best lol) but I was referring to the main numbered series, FF-I through til XII.

Crystal Chronicles is a spin-off of this. Just like Dragon Quest Swords is a spin-off of DQ-I through til IX.
