Sounds like a fire sale has started. For those who might be interested in the add-on, I'd wait a little longer, and I'm sure you'll get one even cheaper.

if thats the case then HD should be better than blu-ray Oo (as betamax was better then VHS)

If you look at sales figures, you'll see that their point is that for those who go out and buy the HD-DVD add-on, their basically pissing their money away and buying a dead format.
