How many nails does it take to actually close a coffin? Best Buy has recently announced that all of their stores are going to begin recommending Blu-ray as the official digital format of choice. This new agenda starts in March and is in reaction to what consumers have clearly shown they want. COO Brian Dunn explained: "Consumers have told us that they want us to help lead the way. We've listened to our customers, and we are responding. Best Buy will recommend Blu-ray as the preferred format."
It's all because of consumers like you! If you're an HD DVD fanatic, though, they'll still stock your stuff if you want to buy it, but in a few years we wouldn't be surprised to see them vanish. Now, Universal, Paramount, and DreamWorks need to stop and smell the roses before they get locked inside that coffin.

Even though Best Buy will still carry HD-DVD products, it sounds like all there sales people will "nudge" you to Blu Ray.
Personally I don't like that, but I guess if they think HD-DVD is really on it's way out, then it's better to have them suggest Blu-ray (if you want an HD format) and not try to unload any HD-DVD players or movies they might want to get rid of.
ok sc7 who's the guy in the pic, is that Brian Dunn?

HD DVD camp responds to Blu-ray progress
HD DVD is officially against the ropes and is getting battered by wicked left and right hooks to the noggin by Blu-ray. But unlike a punch drunk boxer giving it one last shot at the win, it appears that the HD DVD camp is slowly coming to grips with its grim future.
The camp responded to earlier reports that Netflix would only carry Blu-ray titles as well as Best Buy recommending Blu-ray as the HD standard. "We have long held the belief that HD DVD is the best format for consumers based on quality and value, and with more than 1 million HD DVD players on the market, it's unfortunate to see Netflix make the decision to only stock Blu-ray titles going forward," the statement read. "While the Best Buy announcement says they will recommend Blu-ray, at least they will continue to carry HD DVD and offer consumers a choice at retail."
Sure, they're not exactly admitting defeat yet, but it's almost sad to see the HD DVD camp attempting to find a silver lining in the fact that Best Buy is still carrying its discs despite promoting its competitor as the superior product. With overwhelming industry support leaning in Blu-ray's favor, it appears the only thing Sony needs to declare full victory is the support of Universal and Paramount. However, we believe it's only a matter of time before they're "seeing Blu."

It's kind of like watching a puppy in pain, and you just want to make it end quickly so it doesn't suffer. Come on Toshiba, claim defeat and give us some kick ass Blu Ray players.
aww, poor HDDVD. I feel bad for them
well to be honest, it's their own fault.
There are many things they could have done to push their format out above the Blu-Ray.
^^--- This is what I've been saying. Marketing in the EU has been particularly bad. Not even one TV commercial or bus shelter ad?
As I've mentioned before, the only time I'd see HD-DVD adds is at 1 particular movie theater and that was done as a preview, and on some dvd previews which are almost always fast forwarded past.
