*wenis' ego level just increased 1 level*
also, it is rumored that toshiba is giving up on HDDVD as well and are going to make a bluray player of their own: http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/02/14/tos...op-hd-dvd/

I'm perfectly happy with the DVD player I already have, thanks. :l
LoL thats what im doin'!
My PS3 plays Blu-rays. It also upscales DVDs. Rather than pay to upgrade my collection (especially movies like Wedding Crashers, which doesn't benefit from HD), I will just buy new ones on Blu-ray, while my old ones look almost as good as a BR movie when upscaled to 1080p.

Like DVD's, there are some Blu-ray movies that don't really give you that HD feel, so for those thinking about getting a Blu-ray player, or if you have one and thinking about picking up your favorite DVD movies in Blu-ray, go to http://www.dvdtalk.com and check out the reviews. That's why I picked up Underworld for $11.99, because it's suppose to be amazing on Blu-ray.
Toshiba sends HD DVD to its Deathbead,
Well the movie studios are gonna feel this one, there's already a growing number of peeps boycotting disney and blue ray only supporters, looks like there gonna stop buying movies outright.
I would normally say that's a little extreme, but it actually a bit more like crazy. People are not going to stop buying movies because of this decision. Yes you have HD-DVD fans that are very upset, but they will still buy DVDs and use their players to upconvert them.
i remember this argument when DVDs came out, "i am just gonna get the really cool movies on DVD and other movies (rom coms, etc) i can get on VHS"
it didnt happen,
so either blu-ray becomes the new DVD or it this generations Laserdisc (technologically superior but nobody cares)
we'll see, at least it no longer has a 'betamax' to compete with
Blu-ray movies though have really come down in price, and you can buy a huge number of them for $19.99. Now for me, buying a movie like Close Encounters of the Third Kind for $29.99 and getting all 3 of the films movie releases on the disc is well worth the extra cash or buying something like Planet Earth for $54.99 is a steal.
That's what they say, but a couple days ago they said that rumors of them dropping HD-DVD were also false, so I'd expect to see a Toshiba Blu Ray player in a month or two (if not sooner).
I'd suggest anyone who wants to see something interesting go to Amazon.com's HD-DVD forum and see what they HD-DVD fans are saying...they are literally going nuts over there.
I agree with what your saying drew102e. I think these technology companies have finally figured out that the consumer may pay a little more for a player, but they won't be screwed over when going to buy the movie they want. I've written this before, but one should also go to a stores online website when looking for Blu-ray movies because they're usually cheaper. Amazon.com is also a good place to check out for decent prices.
