...and quite a bit faster as the cube was released in fall 2001, over 7 years ago
Wii hits 21 Million Mark
A milestone indeed, the Wii has sold over 21 Million units world-wide based on the latest stats. However it is likely that as of today, the Wii has sold beyond or at least near 21.6 Million, beating the Nintendo GameCube in world-wide sales. Best to wait for confirmation of course.

No surprises there then. While not a bad console, the Gamecube had crap marketing, crap third-party support, and of course, it was up against the PS2. Which leads to a strange irony about the success of the Wii, since it's basically just a Gamecube with a gimmick controller...
IYHO

poor cube

Wii scores another point there then.

next up: Xbox: with sales of more than 24 million, as of May 10, 2006...that should take 3 months tops
The Gamecube could not battle against the PS2 and XBox...but Nintendo persevered and these numbers show just that.
It also shows what kind of world we live in now...video games are a HUGE industry.

well perhaps it couldnt compete with the ps2 (120 million and counting), but the cube held its own against the xbox (21 million vs. 24 million)
And how ironic that I actually play my Wii as a GCN more than an actual Wii xD
Wii ftw....... <_<

Harsh!
But true.
EDIT: Okay, a Gamecube with gimmicky controls and a half-assed online service.

A FREE half assed online service
It's amazing how the Wii sales never slow down. Yay for nintendo!
Yea, I do play my Wii as a GameCube, pretty sad.......but not for sales!
Ya, about that free online, you know what they say, you get what you pay for......"
You do get what you pay for, but do PS3 owners pay for their online? No. And I don't think they have to deal with crappy friend codes.
Yah, but the PS3 and the games cost a lot anyways.
I'm almost surpised that this hasn't happened earlier, given the hype the Wii's recieved. I don't think it's entirely fair to compare this to the PS3's success though. It's kinda unrelated IMO. How would PS2/PS3 sales fit in here? That'd just get a little confusing, wouldn't it?

Like you said, "you get what you pay for."
You pay for quality, you get the quality. Especially now Blu-Ray has had its victory over HD-DVD.
I would rather pay £40 a year for an amazing online service, than be stuck with a free "half assed online service".
