dock worker Jude travels to America in the 1960s to find his estranged father. There he falls in love with sheltered American teenager Lucy. When her brother Max is drafted to fight in the Vietnam War, they become involved in peace activism. The film title and main characters are named after various songs by The Beatles. Musical based on The Beatles songbook and set in the 60s England, America, and Vietnam. The love story of Lucy and Jude is intertwined with the anti-war movement and social protests of the 60s. Over 30 Beatles' songs are woven into the plot together with visual allusions to films Help! (1965), A Hard Day's Night (1964), Magical Mystery Tour (1967) (TV), Yellow Submarine (1968) and Let It Be (1970). Written by Steve Shelokhonov

An original musical film, Across The Universe is a fictional love story set in the 1960s amid the turbulent years of anti-war protest, the struggle for free speech and civil rights, mind exploration and rock and roll. At once gritty, whimsical and highly theatrical, the story moves from high schools and universities in Massachusetts, Princeton and Ohio to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, the Detroit riots, Vietnam and the dockyards of Liverpool. A combination of live action and animation, the film is paired with many songs by The Beatles that defined the time. Written by Anonymous

I watched this movie on Blu-ray this past weekend and it was amazing.  I'm not the biggest fan of The Beatles, but I must say that this movie really moved me.  When you put together a great story, great acting, and an over-the-top psychedelic back-drop...how can you go wrong?

"I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus,
goo goo g'joob, goo goo goo g'joob."
So its the Beatles version of "We Will Rock You"?

Well its a musical, so I kinda have to see it due to my broadway/general musical fanboyness.
The backdrop is Vietnam and the angst against it in America, with a couple love stories mixed in there. Oh and don't forget the pot.
bet it was amazing in hi def,

the cameos were great: bono, joe cocker, eddie izzard, salma hayek
it's got eddie izzard? then i've gotta see it.

if it's based around a Beatles soundtrack, then i'd see it. their original movies were entertaining, and it'd be fun to see if i can catch all the allusions...the story doesn't seem like my cup of tea, but i'll give it a shot.

Yes everything really popped and the colors were amazing. Like I've mentioned before, just like with DVD, not all Blu-ray movies look amazing, but I checked out this one before renting it on http://www.dvdtalk.com and I was really impressed.

This is from http://www.dvdtalk.com and is based on Across the Universe Blu-ray.

some of the allusions were pretty blatant, 'wher did she come from' 'she came in through the bathroom window' or 'when im 64 i wont be working here'

but then some were brilliant, like the eddie izzard sequence

actually most of the movie was just visual interpretations of beatles songs, woven into this anti-war plot but it worked magnificently
