Maybe more people buy and like the PS3 than meets the online eye, that is if unofficial numbers from sales tracker VG Chartz are to be believed.
According VG Chartz, Sony has sold more than 10 million PS3s worldwide through January, something the Associated Press corroborated on Tuesday. By contrast, the Xbox 360 didn't reach the 10 million mark on global VG Chartz charts until June 2007, some four months after the PS3.
Further analysis of the numbers reveal why: the PS3 enjoys consistent sales worldwide in all major markets. The Xbox 360, meanwhile, sells lopsidedly better in the U.S. than Europe and is widely considered a failure in Japan.
Despite its accomplishments, the PS3 has been widely criticized by outspoken pundits and consumers alike since launch, something that has largely simmered down in recent months thanks to a price drop and better games, particularly those released during the holidays.
Adding to the momentum is today's fresh announcement that Toshiba will discontinue its HD DVD business, making Sony's Blu-ray the optical HD standard, and the PS3 that much more compelling as a product.
The console war rolls on...

The 360 is a failure in Japan?! OMG NO WAI!
Yeah, Japan has no love for anything that isn't made in or have something to do with Japan.
Plus they don't like FPS games and 360 pretty much = FPS console... with Mass Effect as an extra xD But the Japanese wouldn't support WRPGs over their own JRPGs anyway.
I don't know if I agree with that. I think if Microsoft really took the time to create some games specifically geared towards the Japanese market then they could get in there. The only one I can thinking of that's been created to try and do that was Blue Dragon (I think that's what it's called) and I don't think it was that great of a game.
It doesn't have anything to do with the Japanese being against MS, they're just waiting for them to release some games that fit their style. MS is so use to telling people what they wanna play, and that might work in the states, but not in Japan.
Japan just don't like good games, they prefer standing on a balance board or counting numbers.
or games with doe-eyed girls and androgynous boys with big swords
i wonder why we as Americans arent as fiercely loyal...we should all own 360s
It doesn't matter where a console comes from, if it has good games people will buy it. I personally have no issue with the 360 and it's FPS because I like them, but apparently the Japanese don't care for them as much.
no, Japanese people just need to be a little more open minded. theres more on this planet than Anime...

If the Japanese have no problem buying the Nintendo Wii and the Sony PlayStation 3, then doesn't it make sense to say that Microsoft needs to tailor at least some of their games to the Japanese market instead of asking a country to open up and be more Microsoft friendly?
Don't forget that both Nintendo and Sony are Japanese companies. I do agree that the 360 might try to make some games aimed more to their tastes but it has been said many times that many (not all) Japanese are ethnocentric.
maybe they are still peeved over WWII

hey.. they bombed us first.
Eh, yeah they're failures in Japan but it seems as if both Microsoft and Sony have something to help them push sales in the future.
Soon Microsoft will be cranking out JRPG's, with the likes of:
Or maybe the Japanese just know junk when they see it...Perhaps they don't like to buy consoles that fail at random. Perhaps it's comments like in this thread is the reason they don't like other stuff? Honestly...

Fail at random? Yes they do.
Hows your PS3?
Face it. This gen is full of fail. Better now?
I wouldn't say that. In fact I think it's been very good.

I think it will get good, but I remain not overly impressed just yet.
