All of you know, or should know, that one of the hottest gaming events of the year is taking place right now; The Games Developers Conference. It is around this time that all the juicy gossip about the latest and up-coming releases is revealed from the event. Recently, information about the Wii Balance Board was revealed at the conference.
According to one of the main guests at GDC, the President of Nintendo America Reggie Fils-Aime, Wii Fit is just the start of a number of games that will be compatible with the Wii Balance Board.
Recently, at the conference, Reggie stated that there are a total of ten games currently in development that will use the balance board; which is being sold with Wii Fit:
"There are over ten games in development that take advantage of the Balance Board," he said. "Certainly in terms of ongoing enjoyment, we believe that Wii Fit plus the Balance Board will provide that to the consumer."
When CVG asked Nintendo UK whether these games in development are going to be Wiiware titles or fully released titles, Nintendo chose to be a tease and decided that they wasn't up for revealing anymore information.
Whether this means more games like Wii Fit or possibly a skateboarding or snowboarding title remains to be seen, however the board does have some amazing potential.

I could see a remake of Track and Field that could use the board nicely but it would still kinda be running in place. They need to combine the Wiimote and Nunchuck with the Balance Board so that you're using them all at the same time. Think of a FPS game where you would walk/run to walk/run and use the Wiimote to aim and the nunchuck to throw grenades/bombs or hold a shield. They could even use the leaning on one side to let you lean around corners! That all sounds good right? But it will probably be casual games so be on the lookout for EA Playground 2 with jump rope and hopscotch events added...
10 games, wow. Nintendo really wants to do big things with this balance board.
Well hey, maybe those masses that buy it won't end up with a useless mat after they get bored of Wii Fit afterall. That's always a positive. Good work Nintendo, who knows... maybe if you make an interesting enough game you might even tempt me into buying it.
It'd have to be a pretty amazing game though, and I doubt you have that in you.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl feet addition! Play with your toes...
I really hope these titles are good. Wii Fit, while interesting looking, will not appeal to all. If they did something really creative with the Balance Board in another game it would be totally awesome.
i figured they'd take the board further than just WiiFit. it has so much potential to become a new component in games, and I applaud them for not just leaving it to rot. i'd love to try boarding on it, whether it be snowboarding, skateboarding, surfing...it'd be interesting.
