I am glad I got it, even though it's a bit too linear for me. I have enjoyed most of the series as of yet, and this one has an interesting story. However, they limit where you can go and what you can do, and every area you get scored on.....and whatever rank you get you receive a prize.

It reminds me a lot of shining in the darkness for the Sega actually. The motions are fun though, and watch out if you move the controller too far off the screen, you lose the pointer and you can get owned. LOL.

Edited to put "else" in title so people would know I have already bought it and have been playing.
These scores are all out of 100 for the game.

Well that doesn't look too promising. Perhaps rent it and see how you feel about it.
It's kind of sad when you take a tried and true video game franchise and dumb it down...nuff said
This really should have been Dragon Quest IX. It would have been a huge release for the Wii.

I totally agree. they should have left out the Wii/sword action and made it similar to Dragon Quest 8 on the PS2, and it would have gone a long way to making many RPG fans fans very happy with the Wii.

I wasn't gonna get the game anyway.

*looks over the last copy of lost odyssey at blockbuster*
I'm too busy playing No More Heroes to play anything else. But perhaps I'll give it a rent and see what I think about it.
A dumbed down version of a DragonBallZ-design like RPG? PASS!

Id' rather play a FF spin-off thana DQ spin-off.
LOL It's better than Crystal Chronicles by far.

It's all about remembering what monster comes out in what area, because the encounters are the same every time. Trying to get the metal slimes are sure the challenge, though.

I don't mind it. I had a feeling it would be a short game.

You do know the creator and artist of Dragon Ball, Akira Toriama, is the artist for Dragon Quest, right? I won't even mention how the stories are infinitely different.

You need to do some research before you crititize Dragon Quest anymore.

Final Fantasy would not exist without Dragon Quest, and just for good measure,
You could capture and use monsters on your team in Dragon Quest 5, which was released for the Super Famicom in 1992, three years before Pokemon was even invented.

Have you even played a Dragon Quest game?

The game isn't all that bad really! I actually enjoy it. The only complaint I have besides the limited areas I can move in is that sometimes the sword movements stab instead of slicing.

It's hard to get good scores on the higher levels. They have a lot of crazy stuff going on in the battles.

What does that have to do with anything? This isn't like anything like any other Dragon Quest game. Real DQ games tend to be, you know, good.

Everything. If he is ragging on the Dragon Ball Z style artwork, then he needs to understand it is the same artist.

I threw in the Pokemon and Final Fantasty bit just to get the word out, and to try and get people to realize how influential Dragon Quest really was.

At any rate, if you play swords expecting it to be the same as the turn-based, epic games of the main series, then of course you'll be dissapointed with it. It's different, it's supposed to be. get the net.

Just to let everyone know (whether you care or not) I bought Dragon Quest Swords online at Amazon yesterday!! I tried at Gamestop and Wal-mart on Sunday, but they were sold out. (In a way, the increase of popularity is almost a problem now. Nobody was ever sold out of Dragon Quest before.)
It's not that bad of a game! Please let me know what you think after you have played for a while.
Tonight X-Play is reviewing the game and it'll be interesting to hear what they have to say.
It gets really interesting later on, they really make it a challenge! LOL. Even with it's limitations, I am still enjoying it.
Yea, X-Play tore the game apart mentioning that the game harldy reconizes anything other than a slash, shielding is flawed, it doesn't do a good job mixing RPG and Action, ect and after all that it got a 2 out of 5. So I think I'll pass.
Yeah, since it's on X-play it's definitely right. Everything they say holds true to everybody's different and varied tastes.
