Oh yes, I remember that...that's when the rumours of Animal Crossing for the Wii got slammed. I'd understand Nintendo making us pay if they are planning on throwing a great MMO at us (like Animal Crossing), but they already comfirmed they've got nothing planned. So what's the deal with the cost for Wi-Fi? ...

Possible voice chat? No friend codes? Being able to add people you meet randomly? Downloadable content? If I owned a Wii and some of these came available, I would pay since I'm an online hore.
In that case...
OFF WITH REGGIE'S HEAD!
This is just freaking great, one of the very few things that was good about Nintendo, and they just HAD to f*ck it up. I mean, havn't they learned ANYTHING from Xbox Live?! And who in their right freakin' mind would pay for every online game they buy? Maybe it's just a one payment thing, and you have to pay like, 10 bucks and thats it, but thats just dumb because all it's doing is adding on money to your game for no reason. But maybe it's a yearly thing, like Live, where they tally up all the Wi-Fi games you've played and which ones you've played to give you a yearly total, but then that could be very bad, your yearly total might come out to be $100+
Now if I got a 360, which I just might now,(or a PS3) I could live with a $50 yearly payment, no problem, my parents would even probobly pay for it, every, christmas lets say, they would renew/pay for it, and it's only $50 a year, I, and my parents can very well live with that.
But with the Wii, it's like holy sh*t, my end paying could be huge, and my parents would never want to pay it, unless that payment for each game is very little, like .99, but they would never do that, oh no, Nintendo needs more money that they are already soaking wet with.
Now after I get Brawl, I might just save up for a PS3/360, but with what little money I get, I think it's pointless, because it would take forever to save up for, thats the only reason I don't have a PS3 or 360, but if I did get, lets say $50+ a month, I would so save up, but I don't.
And if Nintendo sees that casuals don't want to pay for online, they'll make us pay for Brawl and Mario Kart, and i'm sure mostly everyone would not want to pay for those, they'd rather go on Xbox Live, and I agree.
In that case, if they don't want their children to get involved with voice chat, they should just simply not let them buy a headset. Then they won't have to worry about their children listening to foul language etc. Nintendo really need to think properly about these ideas...
*leaves to play his 360*
*leaves to watch videos of 360 games...*
That's exactly what I am hoping for.

I completely agree. When I first read this I was stunned. Nintendo's online service, as is, doesn't hold a candle to XBox Live. Those of you who don't own a 360 and have posted complaints about paying for online play should understand this: the money we pay towards XBL goes towards seasonal upgrades, access to the online features of EVERY game, classic arcade downloads (often with online multiplayer), voice chat, downloaded content (sometimes free after a set amount of time), free demos of upcoming games, free television shows/movie rentals (yes, you pay for about 95% of them), etc.
Now, keeping that in mind, Nintendo was purposefully NOT specific about their online plans. Hopefully, they're doing some research in...I don't know...AMERICA!? to find out exactly what people want to pay for. XBL is the standard bearer right now for online functionality. If Nintendo wants to charge us, they better put out that &@*^ing hard drive and present a service that's comperable.
As it stands I will wait and see, but I have to tell you, I was seriously considering taking all my Wii (and Gamecube) stuff, which totals close to 20 or so games and forsaking Nintendo altogether. As of right now, I think that I may be done getting Wii titles after Brawl.
I think Nintendo just needs a reality check. Improve the online system they have now, and stop looking for the next cash cow.
as long as that doesnt mean just copying xbox live, hope its a redefining online experience
